How to Play the Violin: A Beginner’s Guide to Learning the Violin Basics, Reading Music, and Playing Songs (String Instruments for Beginners)

I wonder how much these people who wrote the book really know about violin. They mention the 4 violin string tuning of g, d1, a1, and e2. When checking compared to a tuner, these are several octaves lower than a violin should be. Tuner shows g3 (196 hz), d4 (293.66 hz), a4 (440hz), and e5 (659.26 hz). I think the tuning they show may be appropriate for a cello or string bass, but a violin seems like too small of an instrument to be that low. Each page has "Error! No text of specified style in document." where the chapter name should be, which tells me that they either had an editor who was half asleep or no final editing took place (see photo). I don't trust the book to tell me everything that I should be told about the violin, and have instead purchased some used books from eBay (essential elements).Overall, I think it provides some very BASIC violin instruction, but not worth what they are charging when other options are out there that are more complete and comprehensive. If I hadn't written in it, or dog-eared the tuning page I would consider returning this book.

Very pleased!
I am relearning the violin and I’m super happy I got this book! I took lessons as a teenager but at 40 I will be the first to admit, I know nothing! So starting over from scratch and this book makes it so easy to learn and it doesn’t have a bunch of fairy tale songs which I love as well! I highly recommend this for anyone trying to learn an instrument! It helps you immensely and is also easy to understand and learn from.

Not enough material to get a beginning student started
This is an okay book. The first three chapters explain the history of the violin, and chapter 4 explains music notation. The lessons begin in chapter 5, and there is very little exercises that gets someone to start practicing repetition and getting the violin comfortable in the students hands. I would've considered another instruction book, had I known the first four chapters were not applicable.

Nice little book
Quite a few pages that say "error" at the top but the actual book is well written and easy for a beginner to understand

More like an introductory pamphlet
Contains basically nothing more than a 5 minute google search. The guides for where to place your fingers is a one sentence mention and a hastily scribbled picture in ball point pen. There are many better books for the a similar price, and way better free information on youtube. Do not buy this book, it is a waste of money. To be clear, some of the information was useful, but again, the same information is better found free elsewhere.

Problem with title.
It is not useful for learners. Beginner should reach upto know the notes and music language. This book contains songs which can not play the beginners. Title is not correct.
