Awesome product
I installed it in the beginning of the season with ease. Probably half hour install. Much thicker and heavier than I imagined. It looks fantastic and add lots of character to my boat when on the trailer. It also helps steering as my other skeg broke off from previous owner. No welding was going to be considered for this aluminum area by me so this is really only option. And I’d recommend it for sure

Nice quality item.
This fit over the damaged skeg on my Alpha 1 Mercruiser perfectly and was very easy to install. I took the boat out over the weekend and it performed well. I wish I could say I noticed a huge difference but I really didn't. Then again my skeg was still 95% there. The real advantage to installing this part is that my skeg is better protected from damage now and I don't have to worry about my existing skeg being further damaged.

Fits like a glove, adds some bling, easy install, well made
Adds some flash to the lower...feels very sturdy and should help protect the skeg from nicks and other minor damage. The skeg is also quite important for protecting your boat prop and helps with steering, so all in all a good investment to protect a much more expensive investment.Suggestion on the drilling - use a small drill bit first to drill pilot holes before switching to the larger final bit. The skeg is aluminum and should drill nearly as easy as wood. I used a portable power drill which was more than enough to do the job. Loctite included to keep the screws fastened properly. Great product highly recommend.

The price equals the quality.
Good quality P.S. Give it a little cleanup on the inside edge with a metal file as it is a little sharp. It will scrape the paint as you mallet it up. Clean appearance and looks like performance accessories to you engine/drive. I also drilled a second drain hole 3/16” at the bottom front. Taking the boat out the water with the engine up, a good amount of water would stay inside that may cause some corrosion with time. Use a center punch to avoid the drill bit to run away during the drilling process.

Fit on a Mercury Classic 60
So although not designed for my 87 Mercury Classic 50, (45 hp 2 stroke, 4 cyl 45 hp) I was able to grind my old front edge slightly and get a great fit. Based on my measurements and the manufacturers feedback, this is the one I chose. The 650 did not fit. This did. Great quality and value. Easy to install 30 minutes.

Well made kit
Well formed Stainless Steel. Blocks the location of the drain plug. I chose to grind out a little opening for it, otherwise I would have had to remove the Safe Skeg to drain the oil. Comes with two sets of bolts/nuts, neither of which fit properly. I wound up cutting two of the bolts, to make it fit snugly

Easy to install
Solid piece to help repair my Skeg after we had found some “hard water” during the last trip out. Fitment was a little off but made a few small modifications and seemed to work well. I’ve used a lot of panther products in the past and they’ve never disappointed

My lower unit is saved now.
After nasty accident with underwater rock there wasn't much left from my 2000 Johnson 115 skeg.Safe-Skeg was a quick and cost-effective way to bring the boat back to water.
