A Picture Book of Louis Braille (Picture Book Biography)

This book is a first biography book and is great read aloud introduction to blindness and the braille alphabet for 1st to 3rd grade. My granddaughter is 8 and able to read it independently with some help with unknown words.

We were doing a unit on the five senses and how it would be to be blind or deaf, etc...The book of Louis Braille was a great addition to our unit as it helped the children to understand how we can compensate and do things another way if we can't do it the traditional way.

I loved it and gave it to someone as a gift

Love Adler's books. Better for older children.

It was too graphic about how he lost his eye sight, the picture not necessary just the description of what happened. Too many details about communists in his house and other information a little too much for young kids. This is more for 2nd grade.

A really superb book for children. It was bought to support my son’s Year 1 class learning on Louis Braille. The story is well written and is very accessible for children from 5 years old upwards. The illustrations are excellent and help make sense of the narrative. My son was fascinated with Louis’ life and it generated conversations about accidents, coping without your sight, clever invention and historic illnesses - although there are opportunities for many more Superb primary school study and thoroughly enjoyed by both parent, teacher and child.
