This and numerous questions we've thought about over our lives. After all, toilet paper wasn't used in the distant past, right? Some of the questions are a little obvious, some obscure, and some we could have lived our lives without knowing the answer to. But, it makes for interesting reading as some of the questions and answers are real head-scratchers.

When a book, no matter what the subject matter is, can be both funny and informative at the same time, it is bound to be a winner. I have a lifetime of interest and passion for reading, reviewing and writing. This fantastic 264 page book, "What did we use before toilet paper" by Andrew Thompson made me smile, laugh, and be amazed at the same time. I love books that provide answers to unusual and unique questions. This volume has so many great questions and answers that this review cannot do it justice. The following is just a very small sample of some of the question and answers this book contains:Can the wall of China be seen from space? Why were neckties invented? Why do we yawn and why is it contagious? What is a blue moon? Do you get wetter when walking in the rain than you do when running? Why do women talk more than men do, but can't read maps as well as men? When was toilet paper invented and what was used before then? How similar are humans to apes? How do people count cards in casinos? Did Robin Hood actually exist? Do hair and fingernails continue to grow after people have died? Can babies hear voices while inside the womb? Was Nostradamus able to predict the future? Why is New York city called "the big apple"? Why does catnip affect cats? How do mirrors work? How can you tell if someone is lying? You will be surprised at many of the answers for many of the numerous questions in this volume.This book was such a good read I could not put it down until I finished reading it. Any trivia buff will already know more up to date and correct answers to most of these questions. If you really need an answer to something in here you'll be better off reading Wikipedia.

I purchased this as a gift and it was an immediate hit! Love the facts and just wild things that we have found in here. 10/10

I thought this book would have fun and informative facts which my grandkids might enjoy, even laugh about. What I didn't realize was that it also covered sex topics. This is not age appropriate for some kids. So be aware before gifting to children....

Some really funny info and interesting facts in book. Also some information that is a little explicit if you get my meaning - was surprised because it was a gift and children shouldn't read!

Since my last review was unceremoniously deleted - I assume because of how upset I was at "the moon landing might be fake, who can say?!" part of the book - let's try again.After reading that, I skimmed several other chapters that revealed similar "leaps" of faith on the author's part to where I just had to DNF and skip all the way to the end so I could write this review. If you, like me, read the title and thought "oh this could be fun", remember the anti-drugs slogan in the 80s: Just Say No.

I dont see that your explanation for what a blue moon used to mean makes any sense. You say the Maine Farmer's Amanac of 1800 defined a blue moon as the 3rd full moon of the season which is rare. Unless you have some odd definition for the length of a season the 3rd full moon of a season cant be rare. It happens every season.

Easy reading

The media could not be loaded.  I am unable to download, says wont connect to wifi; there is a help site, which you are charged for. I tried a shutdown on kindle but didn’t workI am sure book itself is fine, just can’t download it.

The book contains answers to a large number of common questions. An easy read that does not tax the mind.
