Sew the Perfect Bag: 25 Great Projects from Sew News

I own many books on tote bags and purses, but this one has become my absolute favorite. It's suited to any level from beginner to advanced; I consider myself fairly experienced at bag-making, but I learned some new approaches to easy insertion of zippers and have found many ideas for easy bags that are truly useful. For a beginner, there would be many projects that work just fine: straight seams and excellent directions, with lots of pictures to follow. For the bags that require patterns, the patterns are always shown on a single page, and the enlargement is clearly indicated (125%, or 300%, etc.). All you would need to do is photocopy the page at the required size or overlay a graph on the pattern and draw your own larger pattern. Quite a few are simple and do not require patterns at all, just measurements. All sorts of fabrics are used, and hints are provided for sewing on unusual fabrics, such as neoprene and faux suede. The faux suede jewelry roll is so simple, easy, and beautiful! My favorite bag is probably the one called "Mad for Plaid" which is a lovely wool tote that would work for lots of purposes or for travel; it looks sophisticated as well as functional. The directions are so clear and easy to follow; this book is a real find!

Good projects in the book, seems to be detailed and easy to follow. I bought the book for tips on specific construction for bag projects so most of the other projects i haven't tried.
