Looks functional and not junky, works pretty well so far
UPDATE: Still not making as many bubbles as the ones I've seen elsewhere. The smell is mostly gone after 10 cycles or so. The battery lasted 6 or so yesterday. I will make a note of how many today.Unpacking - looks well packaged and attractive. The finish is a little soft and I anticipate it will wear quickly, but this is the lowest priced PEM based hydrogen bottle that I could find on Amazon so I'm not crying about it. The bottom seal appears to be a silicon cup, and leaked a bit. I think many of the issues people have with leaks at the base are due to the threads. There are only a couple of threads and if you don't get it perpendicular to the threads it won't make the last quarter turn. The top leaked for me as well. Not sure if that's my fault. I will have to test. The manual specifically states that this is a PEM device with a platinum element - the reason I purchased it. Most of the lower cost hydrogen bottles will make ozone and chlorine gas. This unit comes with a breathing cannelure of sorts and a fixture for attaching to the device, or to attach the device to a regular water bottle. As shipped it started immediately when I pushed the button. It will not run when plugged in. Per the instructions I ran three loads of water through it. There is a pervasive smell - the harbor freight smell - about the packaging and bit in the bottle. I'm going to run it until I can't smell that anymore. The volume of bubbles is not a lot. I have read that there are ways to make this work better. My first move will be to let it soak overnight. The cat finds this thing fascinating. It builds quite a bit of pressure in the 3 minute cycle. You get a hiss just like opening a pop can. So far so good. After three rounds of water it smells much different. Less like china grease and more like a hint of new shoes, or a battery. I'm going to test this with chlorine test strips in the future to see if the claim about "Exported high quality exchange membrane, no more chlorine, no need replace the filter, more safer for drinking." The water tastes almost like it has a tiny bit of electrolyte in it. A very faint metallic tinge. I'm not sure if this will go away but I don't like it. I poured the water into a clean glass and most of the smell is actually in the device, not the water. I do have a weird tingle on my lips though. I will let this unit soak overnight and then try again tomorrow. I'm going to water my plants with it as well. The cannelure thing is listed as "single use" and shoving something in your nose is gross anyway. I think I'll try to find a pediatric mask or something that just covers my nose so I can breath in my nose and out my mouth. The experience is about as expected. I smell cheap vinyl tubing and my nose feels funny. The unit will pick up water and it will run up the tube into your nose if you overfill it. FYI. Amazon is not letting me upload photos so none at this time. Overall, I have to knock off some points for the weird flavor and the inaccessible gasket that will make it hard to clean - as well as the occasional leak. I'll return to this review if the unit improves.
