Very sturdy and works great for hot or cold foods
I wanted to move away from foam products, so I went with the 8 and 12 ounce of these. We have a cafe that serves soup and ice cream and it is always good to get multiple uses out of a product. I was able to do that with this product. It works just fine with soup or with ice cream. It actually works better than foam with ice cream since the ice cream would stick to the foam and it doesn't stick to this cup. I also like that customers can microwave it without releasing chemicals into their soup. :) The only small suggestion is that you really need to place it in a compost pile in order for it to break down in 60-90 days as advertised. I tried putting them in a pile in a wooded area of our backyard just to see how they would break down -- it takes much longer if not in a compost pile.

Not very strong
We bought these to use for our packaged soups and they were not as tough as I thought they would be. We did not want to use plastic qt. containers any more so these seemed like a perfect option. However, IMHO, they would only be good to carry out cold soups that you plan to eat soon. Also, we have used them for chicken salads, pasta, etc, although only because we have to use them up. When they are stored with soup in either the fridge or the freezer, the container gets flimsy. Once you reheat your soup in it, it gets VERY flimsy. The lid is no better. When heating with the lid on, it also degrades and gets flimsy, risking burn the whoever uses it.

Great lids.
Lids fit the cups tightly and work as intended. Thank you!

A friendlier disposable container for the planet
The cafeteria at work uses NatureWorks compostable containers for soup. They are sturdy and hold up to hot liquids as advertised. At first, I didn't even realize these were special containers because they worked just as well as the non-compostable ones I've seen for years. One caveat, though, is that they're labeled "not microwavable". I've put them in the microwave without any damage occurring, although I am not sure what the heat does to the polymers and if there's any leeching out of the chemicals in the laminate.A reusable non-disposable container is best for the Earth, but in food service situations where this is not practical, this is the next best thing.

Leaky Containers
I love the eco friendly containers and was hoping to find one sturdy enough to hold hot liquids. I purchased a case of these and lids to go with them but was quickly disappointed. I made chili and waited for it to cool a considerable amount before packaging. I would say the chili was warm but by no means hot. I placed the chili into my fridge and within 15-20 minutes I noticed these containers were beginning to leak along the seal. I quickly transferred all the chili. The containers were returned!
