not for the weekend warrior
This a great book, although it is not for the weekend warrior of upholstery, instead it is for the detailed craft person or tradeperson interested in traditional upholstery and its core. The book covers traditional techniques and materials that currently may not fit the time constraints of the average person. As a tailor I understand the differences of traditional construction and quick techniques that yeild silimar results. The difference is time and materials used,(with traditional materials often being difficult to locate). If you are looking to learn upholstery as it was originally concieved this is an excellent book, one that will help you learn intimate techniques to get great looking results. As a reference book I would highly recommend this book, as a basic learning tool perhaps you should try singers BASIC UPHOLSTERY PLUS by steve cone. The marriage of the two will probably give you a better idea of how to tackle your projects and how the new materials used, are directly related to the traditonal ones.

Upholstery made simple(r)
The Essential Guide to Upholstery was recommended to me by a friend who reupholsters for a living. I was told it was a great reference book and one that could be used as a textbook to teach it was that clear and concise. The language and photo's are clear and easy to follow. Everything regarding upholstery, from picking out furniture to buying appropriate fabric and techniques to make your project look professional is included.

Glad I bought it.
However, I decided that it's for the craftsman, not me. But I enjoyed reading it. Learned a lot, on chairs I don't need to completely re-do. But some basic things, they glossed over.
