250-watt infrared heat bulbs provide heat to your growing baby chicks. The red color is a bonus: it helps prevent chicks from picking at one another and also makes it easier for them to sleep.

Will kill chicks
You can't use this bulb around birds. The non-stick base is teflon like and will gas off. That gas will cause their lungs to fill with blood and fluid and they literally drown. It took 5 days for the "teflon" to start degrading so I used the bulb with a second batch of cicks, who died within hours. Then I did some calling around and found out about the danger of using teflon around birds. People have killed whole flocks by using rough duty bulbs in coops or keeping brooding chicks in the kitchen. Henceforth I am sticking to regular incandescents.
