Not meant for sickos, meant for intelligent readers
This book is an enjoyable read, like one review said, "like having a cup of coffee with a friend." The book is relevant because she discusses the context of the cases. Why do we as a society notice one case and not another? What factors in the decade of the murders influenced our police force attention, or lack of attention? What is the role of the media in any given case? It doesn't keep me up at night with fear of being alone, instead it helps me think about society, and yet is a page turner... I highly recommend!

Thoroughly Informative, yet Warmly Witty with Legal and Societal Context that Takes you Deeper
I am not a frequent reader of True Crime, but I ordered this book to satisfy the inner-child in me that fondly remembers staying up late, enveloped in thick blankets, binge-watching Unsolved Mysteries. This book did not disappoint! The author struck a satisfying balance between being thoroughly informative and warmly witty. Her legal experience was evident throughout, especially in helping readers understand the Jon Benet investigation. And I thought that the societal context provided for each case allowed for a deeper appreciation of them. I would definitely recommend this book to any reader who wants a True Crime book that goes beyond the stodgy, same-old gory spectacle feel of an A&E documentary.

Great read!!
This is an amazing book. I love true crime documentaries and stumbled onto this book. I was hooked after the first chapter! There is a great blend of stories I had heard about and some I hadn't. The author approaches each one from an angle I hadn't considered before. It was a fun and fast read, like talking to a friend who knows a lot about crime!

Easy read
I really enjoyed this book. It gave a more in depth look into cases I only knew the surface of. It is very opinionated but I enjoyed her view. I read the book in 3 days

Punchy, informative take on true crime
Fantastic fresh look at some high profile cases we’ve heard about, and many that were new to me. Not just a re-hash of the facts, but provides important context and insights into the ways media narratives and frenzies are created. It’s a fresh perspective with a new twist on true-crime storytelling. And I really appreciated the variety of cases. Highly recommend.

A TERRIBLE BOOK by a HORRIBLE author! Do NOT waste your time....
The authors writing style is TERRIBLE! For a subject that gives an author the ability to really make a difference....or "put the writer in the families or victims position" all this author does is complain on how all men and white people are "evil"!If you want to read a book by a "woke" author who tries to make a political agenda out of EVERY subject possible....read away! I like to read to ESCAPE the everyday political mess.....but this author does her best (Sorry....THEIR BEST....I think she does not appreciate female pronouns!!!!) to spin every situation in the book to be about "Privileged White Girls" and interject their political agenda into a story over FACTS....If you appreciate a book who's cover and description does not match it's content, then you will sleep with this book on your heart....If you want an OPEN/OBJECTIVE book about FACTS in these cases....don't buy this book....or if you have...RETURN IT to Amazon! Its better in the TRASH than it is in your hands!

Judged a Book by its Cover
I jumped too soon on buying this. I was intrigued by learning new info on some famous cold cases, but there wasn't much new for me. There also seemed to be a bias from the author on some of the cases, even when the evidence suggested otherwise.

A fun read perfect for murderinos
So much fun! This book reads like a conversation with your best friend about true crime. Some of the cases I knew, some I wasn't as familiar with and learned a lot. An easy read full of sarcasm/humor, interesting observations and compassion for victims.

Disappointing
This book says nothing new about any of the cases reviewed, and full of speculation. The fact that the references and the 'Bibliography' consist almost entirely of web material gives a clue.
