This is without question the single best outdoor book I own or have ever seen. I belong to a fishing club in Oregon (where I believe Denny is from) and one of our members told me that "I really needed this book". So I checked it out and it was $45 bucks!! Are you kidding me? I just don't spend that kind of money on fishing books and you probably don't either. But this recommendation came from a very experienced fly fisherman whose opinion I really value.The book arrived quickly and man was I wrong!!! This is the most beautiful outdoor book I've ever seen. Full of great full-color action photos and some really enormous trout taken in the Western US.I've lake fished for trout for years and I thought I had a general notion of what it took. I was wrong!! Dead wrong. No wonder I never caught anything in a lake full of big fish.Denny attacks fishing lakes like a scientist. He breaks the water into five depth zones and tells you how to fish each zone. What flies to use, what kind of retrieve, what time of day and on and on. I couldn't put this book down!!!! At three in the morning, I stumbled to bed and my wife asked what was doing. I told her I was reading a fishing book. She thought I was nuts!!There is not a single topic that Denny doesn't cover. Weather, seasons, lake size, water temp, fly size, all different retrieves (I had no idea!!), even how other noted fishermen fish still waters.I could go on but hopefully, you get the point. If you are serious about catching big fish in lakes (he tells you where to catch the little ones too!) this book is mandatory. If I could only own one book on fishing (I own dozens) this would be the one. The price is a joke. It is worth way more than what Amazon asks for it. Way more!! There is so much really good, useful info in this book it will take you a very long time to assimilate it all. I read it almost daily.I promise if you take the plunge you won't regret it. It is that good.

With all of my years of experience, reading this book and Denny's older book on stillwater, these are my new stillwater bibles. No other books I have read ring so true to catching trout in lakes. I am looking forward to refining my techniques and fly tying patterns. I'll know my technique is correct when the catch rate goes up. When you read it, believe it. Most of whats in here I already know to be true but either never had the time or the patience to work through so completely as Denny has.
