I have this thing where in the winter, my fifty bazillion ton purse becomes too heavy to add to my weighty winter coats. I have been wanting an alternative purse to bring essentials in with me. The small wallet style is too small for me. The pocket wallets, again not big enough. Then I saw THIS!WHAT IS THIS LIKE?First of all this is really well suited for gift giving. It comes in a zippered plastic bag which also houses the drawstring cloth bag which holds the satchel inside. It is very classy.LEATHER QUALITYThe leather quality of this is nice. It is not ultra thick, but it is stiffer than soft drapey leather too.FRONT SECTIONThe front section closes with a magnetic dot on it. You have to take TWO pieces off to make it stick. There is a plastic disc on it and then the male side of the magnetic button also has plastic film on it. Once both of these are off, then the magnet will work.Inside this section there is room for papers, envelopes, pen, pencil, and a small phone, or a glasses case or long narrow pad to write on. There is an outside zippered pocket on there which has a triangular pocket inside the lining. That means that there is a long spot in the middle and as you move toward the sides, the pocket lining narrows so you can put various sizes of things in it without it getting lost in a deep pocket.BACK ZIPPER POCKETThis also has a back zipper pocket. It fits my entire hand, so there is a lot of room to carry ads, coupons, papers, or other things you might want to have handy.CENTER ZIPPERED SECTIONThis section is deep and has one zippered pocket inside. The pocket and section is deep. You will want to put a slim wallet in here.ANY POCKETS FOR CREDIT CARDS?There are not any pockets for credit cards, business cards, or other small cards of that size. You will need a wallet for that.ANY PHONE POCKETS?The one outside pocket will fit a typical smartphone, but the inside pocket although it fits one too (even a bit larger than normal one) it is harder to get to because of the opening of the top and pocket.STRAP?The strap is a heavy cotton webbing. It is not nylon which I am glad of. This will stay put on the shoulder better than slicker nylon will. There is a sliding silver told buckle which will retract the size of the strap to fit you better. There are also big hooks on each end of the strap if you want to remove the strap for any reason.THE BOTTOM LINEAlthough this is very handy, if you prefer not to carry a wallet and want card slots and want a specific phone pouch this might frustrate you a bit. The color is nice, the quality excellent, and the layout is good. I will be putting a thin wallet in this purse when I want to carry it.MY RATINGFIVE STARS, although it hovers around four and a half. The lack of card pockets is off putting, but using a slim wallet is not that bad, so it is not enough to remove a star from the review.BURNINGFor those into leather burning, this is the type of leather it is okay to burn. It is vegetable tanned which is safe for burning, but it does have a glossy coating which could cause issues with your burning tip. If you have one you are not that particular about, it would work on this. I plan to try to burn into this some day a nice design as soon as I get better at the process.

I love this satchel. The only thing is, I think it looks more feminine than masculine, but that's my personal opinion. It comes in a lovely bag. The leather is shiny. The straps are fabric, not leather. There are zippered pockets on the outside on both sides, and two roomy interior sections. However: this is NOT a true large messenger bag. It's much smaller than what you probably have in mind as a messenger bag. This is roughly 7" X 9" or so (estimated; I cannot find my tape measure); think about the size of a tablet carrying case.There are more zippered compartments within, and two handy places for pens/pencils. The satchel is flat-ish, so this probably isn't the bag for you if you like to pack a ton of stuff into your carrying case. It's a great case for a tablet, your phone, cash, cards, and essentials, but not terrifically bulky items.However, it's a very attractive satchel, and quite neutral. It won't clash with anything, and is quiet and understated. I highly recommend it if you need a classic case for carrying your essentials.
