Soup for Syria: Recipes to Celebrate Our Shared Humanity (Cooking with Barbara Abdeni Massaad)

Amazing book
This was a gift for my sister, and hit three of her passions: Soup, refugees, and photography. Because it was a gift, I haven't tried any of the soup recipes, but they looked good--not too complex, not too many unusual ingredients, and not too time consuming. I have made some of the soups in the book with my own "recipe," and these recipes were similar but added touches I hadn't thought of.But what was the best about the book were the photographs of individuals and families in the Syrian refugee camps. They help to remind us that they--and all refugees--are people, with hopes and loves and sorrows. It is a worthy gift for anyone who likes soup and social justice.

Satisfaction for Body and Soul
Soup for Syria is a wonderful book on many levels. The recipes are delicious, yet simple to prepare; the photographs are beautiful; and the profits help people. I discovered this book because of my theology class's concern about Syrian refugees. I bought ten copies----one for each member of the class. At the next meeting, we ate Greek Chickpea Soup with Lemon and Rosemary (page 77)-----satisfying to body and soul. Other favorites are Carrot and Ginger Soup, Curried Cauliflower Soup, and Iranian Pomegranate Soup. I can't wait to try Green Asparagus Soup with Poached Eggs and Sauteed Shrimp.

Wonderful feasts for tummies AND eyes which can benefit a good cause too...
The book is beAutiful, full of luscious looking recipes for soup (come winter and this will be an absolute treasure!) And many wonderful photographs of the beautiful Syrian people. While I always try to support Goodwill (and books are always better than described. This one came almost a week earlier than promised!) I wish I had known about it in a timely manner to support the cause for which it was originally conceived. Anyone who loves soups will find this book, with its variety of cook/contributors a welcome addition to any collection.

Lovely Recipe book for a good cause
I was trying to get copies of this book to give as Christmas presents but it was out of print in the UK. I then found I could order them from the States so that's what I did, swallowed the postage (not too bad) and they arrived well packed and pretty quickly. The profits from book sales support UNHCR aid work with Syrian refugees. It has striking photographs and great recipes from well known cooks/cookbooks. My only criticism is the colour of typeface used - as other reviewers have noted, it is extremely difficult to read! Hopefully that will be corrected when this lovely book is reprinted.

YUM !! Try it you'll like it!!I ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
A very delicious book, but I'd say you have to be a bit adventurous-not terribly, but this is not a chicken noodle and tomato soup cookbook. There are quite a few vegetarian recipes, using a variety of vegetables. Lamb is also a popular ingredient in a few. I have made about three soups so far, sometimes with trepidation. They have all really tasted delicious ! This is an update to my original review. I have tried at least five of the recipes – some because they sounded interesting, and some because I had all of the ingredients needed for the particular recipe. Without exception, every one of the recipes produced and absolutely and amazingly delicious soup. The flavors are very well blended and smooth. Amazing! I enthusiastically recommend this book!

A Great Cause
This is a beautiful book, with images that are both heartwarming and heart-wrenching. I bought this book as a participant in a cookbook club soup swap event on meetup.com. At the event, I sampled about a dozen of the soups. Most were a bit on the bland side, including the roasted beet soup I made. So buy the book -- it's a great cause -- but know that you have to tinker with many of the recipes to build more flavor.

Nevertheless the photography is very good and the sentiment extraordinary
I agree with the conclusion of a fellow reviewer here that the decision to print the instructions in very pale grey scale is a serious l design error rendering the book very difficult to use as a true cookbook -- at least through my eyes . Nevertheless the photography is very good and the sentiment extraordinary. I would not hesitate to buy the book again though.

Beautiful book for a worthy cause
Beautiful book and a worthy cause! The recipes, mostly vegetarian, are good, basic recipes and relatively easy to prepare. To date I've only made 3 or 4 of them and am reasonably happy with the results. I plan to not only make more of the soups in the book but have bought 3 additional copies to give as gifts. Recommend.
