The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season One - Part One [Blu-ray]

I haven't gone out of my way to purchase an anime for quite a while, but I did in this case. It is a really underrated show that has a lot of heart, great storytelling, and some really unique ways of subverting popular cliches and genre tropes. The animation is good and smooth, but the most important part is definitely the story, with likable, well grounded, and believable characters with interesting motivations. This is one of the few series I have seen to capture the real feeling of being in a video game or alternate fantasy world, and the way it does so is to subvert the common expectations of such a trope and delve into a richer experience in terms of character study. Watching this show feels like playing a high difficulty RPG and finding a way to meet the challenges in a unique and unexpected way in order to survive and keep moving forward. The characters are intelligent, have mature relationships, and actually grow and change in noticeable ways.Well, I feel like I could literally go on and on delving into what I love about this show, but a review isn't the place to do that, because I really don't want to give away the very plot twists and events that help to make watching this show so interesting. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed it! An interesting premise where a guy is brought to a foreign land, is set up immediately and begins a life on the run...all the while trying to save the world.Plenty of exciting turns on the way. Great story, great voice acting and beautiful scenery/graphics. I'd highly recommend it!

Some people have nothing but hate for this show and it’s not deserving of it. I guess they pick and choose things in a vacuum with no context and decide to make it fit there agenda and hate it. I’m 100% sure those people have never even seen this lol. This is a really good show and a unique take on the isekai genre. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would at first, it’s become one of my favorite isekai and I’ve seen them all. Can’t wait for season 2! This is a really nice limited edition too. It has different textures and gold all over the box. This is one of Funimation’s nicer limited edition sets and totally worth it considering this is a really good one. Get it before it goes out of print, or if you’d like to save money wait for the complete essentials variety. Either way this is highly recommended from me to you if you like isekai even the slightest, really happy I gave this a shot and that I decided for myself if it was good or bad. Don’t sleep on this show!

I remember watching this after high school and I loved every minute of it. The Shield Hero suffers a lot from the start and has to work his way to trusting the world he's in. He's cold and heartless but overtime, develops trust and forges bonds with his team, especially Raphtalia. I love this anime😄

After hearing the hubbub around this series for probably nearly a year I picked up Part 1 of Season 1 back in June. After clearing other stuff in the queue I finally started working towards catching up with this series last week and WOW! I was blown away at the quality of the art and how well done the story is. I really enjoyed the English Dub but I will go back and watch it sub'd later. The characters and twists are interesting and I've got part 2 now on order here.

A wonderfully done Anime with characters easy to remember and a story that is interesting and making you want more

My hype died when I found out that I was missing 2 disks.The box comes with art work and some misc. gifts. I haven't opened the gift box. The gift box is the same size as a long blu-ray case. Nor did I open the art book, also same dimension but thinner. The disk media case had two flaps in it. The center two disks were missing. They happen to be Blu-ray 2 and DVD 1.I technically have all the episodes, but...Anyway, I'll try for a replacement and revise rating depending on second product.Edit 6/7/20: Received the replacement. The art inserted on the outside mediancase was damaged. The two disk were there. I took the two disks and will be returning the case with damaged art and it will be missing two disks.

The first couple episodes are hard for the main protagonist. Yet he does rise after beaten down over and over. After a while you start to cheer for him to keep rising as the whole seems against him.

Amazing special edition set! The outer case looks like a book and inside are the dvd, a booklet full of character art studies, and a box full of goodies (stickers, keyring, mini wall hanging and 4 art prints). You remove the inner box and use that space to slot in the season 1 part 2 dvd. Really really happy with this and they are good quality items. The art prints are so nice and I'll definitely be framing them. Also, this is one of my favourite animes. It's a beautiful fantasy setting with really likeable characters that you root for (and some you utterly loathe - one in particular!). If you're a gamer you'll appreciate aspects of the story. I normally watch Japanese audio for anime but the English dub for this is one of the best I've seen.

Probably the best collector’s edition of an anime I have ever bought! All the items and the box are really high quality, with space for part 2 in the hard case.The anime itself is a fantastic piece of work with amazing characters, beautiful settings and a powerful story about a man overcoming a world bent of destroying him with false allegations.

Firstly the box is simply beautiful! The artwork is astounding and the quality of the box is better than some I've seen.The bluray case itself is undamaged and has a reversible covering featuring artwork of Ralphtalia and Naofumi.The art cards, tapestry, key chains and stickers come in a separate box. The tapestry and key chains in their own plastic wrap to protect them. The art cards are double sided. One side is full colour and the other a sketch action shot.And then the art book. Where do I begin with the art book?! Firstly its quality paper and translated into English!! Annotations on the sketches are still in the original Japanese.No character is over looked and you'll even find unnamed characters featured. It includes full colour concept art and sketches. Even the food has pages dedicated to it. And the many monsters and props have pages as well. The amount of detail taken for this anime is astounding and you'll find the proof within these pages. There are full colour illustrations and mini comics. An interview with the the anime staff for behind the scenes details.This is just a brilliant collector's box and worth every penny. More than satisfied. Highly recommended to any Shield Hero fan.

Quite simply one of the best stories made. I have been a bit cynical of anime lately but this was a breath of fresh air. I love the characters and story. Its a near perfect story.The only fault is that sometimes I feel shortcuts were taken in the animation but I can forgive it. They prioritised the characters story and action sequences.I highly recommend this to everyone!

Absolutely brilliant anime and this limited edition set is great with extras for any collector I watched the entire set immediately now I can only wait for part 2 highly recommend buying if you haven't seen it has one of the most hated characters in a anime I've seen
