Much Improved Walking a Chocolate Lab
My dog is a seven year old 60 pound chocolate Lab. She is an American lab, not the English lab with a block head. For some reason, American chocolate labs are very hyper. Some would say she is manic. She is very affectionate, and very smart. Sheretrieves the Wall Street Journal every morning from the end of the driveway. She has been doing this since she was a pup with no training. She also respects the boundaries in the house β she stays in the kitchen, family room and her bedroom (my office). But when walking, she is a pain β always pulling - and trying to chase squirrels. I am a seventy year-old and walk at my pace. She wants to walk faster at her pace. This collar has made a big difference. She no longer pulls hard. There still is some tension in the leash if I let her walk ahead. If I shorten the leash, she stays right at my side. In general, she is much easier to walk with. Here are some tips:For a snug fit, I removed 3 links. When I first received the collar, I let her smell it, and gave her a treat. Then I would just lay it across her neck, and gave her another treat. Finally, I put it around her neck and fastened it (not so easy β takes a strong grip) and gave her another treat. From then on, she wags her tail when I show her the collar and get ready for a walk. She is fully cooperative while putting on the collar.I also practiced walking with her in the driveway following the instructions. She is not yet perfect, but each week I notice improvement and I highly recommend the collar if you have a βpullerβ..

Fits well, strong collar.
I got this for my smaller dog (weighs about 50 pounds but has a fairly small neck). It fits him pretty well. I little snug when I put in on and take it off but while he wears it it's perfect. I have one that is a different brand for my bigger dog and the only difference is the metal seems to be a little thinner. Overall that is ok though because this still does the job and I don't expect it to break at all. The other thing that I noticed while shopping for a collar is that most don't come with the rubber nubs on the tips anymore and that would be a nice addition. If you have a dog that pulls while walking this collar is a life saver, I won't walk either dog without it. It also is great because if for some reason you don't have it to walk the dog, they are better trained to not pull as much out of habit.

Perfect with Proper Use!
Properly utilized, this collar has completely changed the way I look at taking my dog on walks. I love being able to take him with me wherever I go now without having to worry about his terrible pulling habits. It used to be that I'd actually get sore from leaning backward as we walked to counter-balance his incessant tugging. Even when I used a "no-pull" harness, my dog would keep on 'keeping on' and it made walk time stressful for us both.So I tried stopping in my tracks every time my shepherd pulled, continuing only when he stopped to look at me, as our old trainer had suggested. The idea was that, so long as the dog was paying attention to me, I would allow him to move forward. This way, he'd stay by my side instead of lunging ahead. I tried this practice for days on end. We'd hardly make it to the edge of the park in under an hour - this was normally just a 15 minute walk.My dog had quickly learned that as soon as he did what I wanted, we would move forward. But despite his attentiveness, he still pulled, only to quickly glance back at me, and lung forward once more. We only made it a few steps at a time. It seemed my dog didn't mind stopping, so long as he was able to pull again thereafter. When I told this to our old trainer, she started to make excuses as to why she couldn't help me and my dog anymore (she needed to stay home because he kids were sick, she was having car troubles, etc). Eventually, she stopped returning my calls and I never heard from her again. Her training methods simply did not work for us and I think she was embarrassed by that fact. It left me at an even greater loss. I wasn't sure what to do.I told the story of my deadbeat trainer to a friend of mine in New York. He directed to me to a friend of his who is also a dog trainer, specializing in high-energy breeds using balance training methods. I got on the phone with her and she immediately suggested a Herm Sprenger prong collar, and, because she lives across the country from me, was even kind enough to post an instructional video on YouTube to help show me how to use it.Within a few hours of putting this collar on my dog, the pulling had stopped. He still walked with the leash taught, but not enough so that I could feel his weight on the tether. Within a few days, he was walking slack-leashed by my side and we were able to go on our first stress-free walk together. He finally understood what I wanted from him, and this tool made that possible. Now we are able to travel together flawlessly; I can take him to the beach and into the woods to work on his tracking skills as we'd always planned. This wouldn't have been possible without this collar.
