a empowering book
okay probably not words you think of when you think of a Japanese novel about a Yanki and a Elegant Gothic Lolita. Probably few if anyone that reads manga would probably even think to pick up the book. Yet I say EVERY girl should read it.Because, its about the bonds that are the very beginning of any life long friendship. The friendships that actually last and will stand the tests of what ever is thrown at one during life, and what you'll throw back at life to keep that friendship. Its just a wonderful book, that every girl should read. Even if its about two wildly different Japanese girls and neither is really a 'mainstream underground' in America, everyone LUVS a E.G.L. and who doesn't want to be a big bad Yanki sometimes?word of warning, there is some cussing. artfully and tastefully done. and yes I apply those types of words to cussing.

Interesting book and learning of Japanese subcultures
I had been wanting to read this book since I had seen an ad for it in shojobeat manga back when I was in high school and I had been looking for it in barnes and noble bookstores but couldn't find it

i wanted to dislike this book, i really did.
but fourtunately i was unable to. the book is better than the movie, because the characters are clearer. in the end of the movie, i didn't really understand momoko's desicion not to (thing she decided not to do because i don't want to spoil it for others)but in the book i understood it better.like another reviewer said: it would help you to know a bit about japanese pop culture, but most of the time important things are explained pretty clearly.so read the book, even if you aren't interested in lolita fashion, you'll laugh, worry, feel sad, w00t... and come away feeling good about being different, which is not something i can say for a lot of books written for brokemold teengirls these days.

Mostly good.
Gave a third experience of the Kamikaze Girls after the movie and the book itself. But I knocked off a star because the final manga was creepy and NOT kamikaze girls! Waste of story space. No thanks.

Great One-Shot manga!
Kamikaze Girls is a good manga. I liked the story and thought that the characters were interesting. It was also very funny. The art was beautiful! Over all, it is a great one-shot manga, and I give it five stars!

Kamikaze Girls is amazing!
Momoko is a lolita who has moved to a small country town and does not currently have any friends. Until through a transaction she meets Ichiko (or Ichigo) who is yanki and these two polar opposites start to hang out with one another and influence each other in different ways. The way that they talk together they let them fully be themselves because they are not trying to impress each other which in a way makes them become closer. It is an excellent novel that goes into depth in the lolita mind of Momoko so we can see things through her eyes and understand the way she thinks very well.

Recomendado a cualquiera

One of my favourite novels!
Kamikaze girls is a bildungsroman... WITH A TWIST! Yes, it's about young girls maturing by befriending each other, but it's also about individual identities and passion. And also very funny!

Fantastic
A friend got me into this. Initially it began with a link on youtube, and then I thought, I want to read the book first! If you love the Japanese culture and you want their version of modern, smart, funny and yet heartbreakingly sensitive comedy, then this is the book to read. I loved the story so much that I bought the film (which does not disappoint). I won't go into the details of the actual story, but suffice it to say that in my opinion, its the perfect little story about an unusual friendship. It has all the right elements, and even if you can't get your head around the cultural side of it (particularly if you don't know anything about Lolita's), I think you'll still find this a very enchanting book to read. The characters are colourful and vibrant, and so at odds with each other, and yet it works. They draw you into their world completely, and the writing is clear and well structured which makes it beautifully easy to read as you're trying to get your head around some of the cultural trends that the two characters follow. A little gem of a book and I will definitely be looking out for more by this author, or books of a similar kind. A book like this can make you appreciate that culturally, socially and even economically, humans can be worlds apart - but friendship, identity, love, hate and passion are things that make us all equal.
