This product did not work well directly on brass. I tried soaking it for 10+ hours and nothing. I tried painting coats on it after the 7th coat i had just the beginning hints of green or maybe my eyes where playing tricks at that point. Also keep in mind this is very close to water in consistency so it is not going to stay exactly where you put it. It may work just fine with the Metallic Surfacers they sell but on its own i wouldn't waste my money. I ended up using the salt and vinegar vapor method and that worked fantastic. I wouldn't rate this so harshly if not for the fact that it say right on the bottle that you can use it on its own on brass.

I bought this to patina a copper coat rack I made out of 3/4 copper pipe. To prepare the pipe I washed all the oils and coatings, used fine steel wool, washed again and then used course steel wool. I had done this before the product arrived and hit it one more time with the wool before I used the solution."Attention: ...works best when applied to our metallic surfacers. " First line on the back of the bottle. Yeah, didn't see that on the Amazon page. The solution beads up and does little when applied. The surface was scored well from the coarse steel wool. Hoped to have some results.This is the line from the description "It can be used with Modern Options Metallic Surfacers , or on real copper, brass, or bronze." That led me to think I could use this by itsself.I did test the patina by submerging a copper fitting in the solution. I makes a pretty patina if you can immerse the copper. Not an option with a 4 foot section of pipe.With a large surface you might need the metallic surfacer. Seller should include some info on this. So -1 star for this and -1 star for me. I knew this was a water based solution and didn't think it through enough. Not sure if the surfacer would work and not going to investigate, going to leave it as brushed copper. That looks good too.

Great stuff

I've used this brand before with luck, but I believe I used blue. This time I couldn't find the blue so I purchased the green in hopes it would work. Getting ready to do my 3rd coat but so far, only gives a dull finish, definitely not verdigris. Disappointed.
