Very good gun safe for the money.
OK this safe is perfect for storing two handguna with no issues. Its build really well and no way will your kids get to your firearms. The directions for install and combination are inside the safe so use the key they kive you to open it. It is a 5 star safe all day long but wasnt happy with the amount of hardward screws they gave me so I had to go out and buy more. I secured my safe to my dresser and the unit only comes with 4 wood screws but the mounting bracket can hold use twice that. I felt for the money the company can add the other screws. Bottom Line I love the product but for something to get a 5 it has to be perfect.

I was extremely appalled at the poor quality of the Gardall Pistol Safe
I was extremely appalled at the poor quality of the Gardall Pistol Safe. For a product that supposedly is designed to secure a handgun from unauthorized access, the locking mechanism is horribly weak. The latch is literally designed like a simple latch on an interior door of a home. It could be easily jimmied within seconds with a common credit card. In addition, when the interior lining was removed to install a battery for the electronic lock, I could see how poorly the rest of safe was constructed. The bottom panel is simply tack-welded in a few spots around the perimeter, thus leaving large open gaps between the bottom panel and the sides of the "safe". Needless to say, I immediately returned this product to the seller for a refund. I wouldn't use it to secure a bag of M&M's from my grandkids, let alone a handgun. By the way, I thought it was terribly unfair to have to pay the return shipping charges ($22) on such an obviously inferior product.

Great Product
Exactly what I needed in a small handgun safe. Will fit 1 to 2 full size handguns. Came with batteries and 4 types of mounting hardware.

Very good, but a few glitches
This is a very good compact safe. It has the base plate that can be bolted or screwed (or riveted to concrete) to a wall or shelf. I purchased it to store a new pistol I purchased. There is also some room for other valuables.I would still purchase it again because it works well. There are a few things that kept me from giving it 5 stars, however.1. I didn't receive the product for 2 weeks. There was some mixup where the vendor says they did not get the order form Amazon.2. The instructions are locked inside of the safe with nothing on the outside that tells you to use the keys that come with it to unlock it. Not too big a deal, but it would be nice to have a little sheet that tells you want to do.3. The bolts were too short for my 3/4" plywood shelf, so I had to go and buy new bolts. How much could it cost to have longer bolts.4. The instructions for unlatching the base plate could be more clear. All of the instructions are minimal. Like, use the provided hardware to attach the backplate. No hint on whether to put the nuts on the backplate side or the bottom side. (Important since there is only a certain amount of clearance between the backplate and the safe.5. When you register for the 1 year warranty, they want you to send $50. That's wierd.Once I got into the safe with the key, and retrieved the instructions, I was able to reset the combination. The mounting on a sturdy shelf was easy enough. Drill a few holes, etc. If the instructions told me what the thread and size of the bolts were, it would have helped me to replace them with the longer ones. (No help there.)I liked the idea that there were wood screws that would not go all the way through the shelf so that if someone was smart and was able to work the bolts out, they would still not be able to remove the safe. Some hints about secure installation would also have been helpful. This is a 5 start product with 2 star documentation. For want of a single sheet of paper, and a few paragraphs, this would be 5 stars.

Beware the noise
Gardall does not disclose that the safe makes a loud beep at each push of a key and that feature cannot be turned off.

KEEP YOUR KIDS SAFE!
This safe is the perfect solution for gun owners who want to protect their families and themselves from unauthorized use of there weapons. For all gun owners who will spend $600 to $1000 on a handgun, this safe will keep those guns from falling into the wrong hands for 180 bucks. Its a no brainer. Don't be suckered into buying a cheaper knock off safe. This thing is solid steel weighing 15 pounds. It comes with a one year warranty from Gardall. Gardall has been building safes for over 60 years. Great for the bedside table, dresser draw, in the car, or in the hotel room. For all the gun owners who drive to the pistol range and need to secure their weapons. For all the police officers and people with carry permits who cannot enter certain venues with a firearm such as Ball games, concerts, or night clubs. Use the cable or bolt it down in your trunk problem solved. People who live alone with no kids don't think you need this? What about coming home to an intruder in your house or apartment? Congrats you just armed him! If you live through this horrible event, you can find comfort in knowing someone has your gun and will use it on someone else. I feel strongly about this safe and feel this safe would save many lives through out our country. Live free and be safe!

Solid, actually a safe
The safe itself is worthy of a 5-star rating but the instructions on this thing are terrible and therefore, the reason I removed one star. It is also important to note that this safe is NOT quiet; it makes a fairly loud whirring sound as it opens the door and then plays a chime upon successfully entering the code. I have been considering manually taking care of the chime portion but the loud whirring sound is not likely to change. I think that if the chime can be disabled, that it is reasonably quiet and should not be an issue.Improvements that could be made are to 1) offer a means to disable the chime (key-code) and 2) improve the instructions (power pack and means of securing it were in a bag in the safe and the key must be used to retrieve needed bag).

kinda loud
the buttons and they sound when the safe is opened is loud. Perhaps the noise alone would stop intruders in their tracks! Kidding, it is sturdy and seems impenetrable.
