Blink and you will miss the love story…
The Princess Knight was a bloody good story but it wasn’t a great “love” story.I could easily leave my review at that because I think it sums it up quite nicely. But… I can’t help myself, and I probably need to explain my 5-star rating for a not great love story, so, here goes…G.A. Aiken again proves her stuff writing such a thoroughly entertaining para/fantasy. The characters were strong, determined, obstinate, and extremely passionate about protecting and caring for those they love. The humour in this tale is off the charts and you can’t help but wear a goofy grin while reading. The storyline is riveting with very clear goodies and baddies and the goodies have me wanting to strap on armour and raise my sword to the cause. This may not appeal to some, but I absolutely love the clarity identifying the good and bad guys. I don’t like suffering (along with the characters) when a friend turns out to be a foe. Sure, I get over it, but there is a little part of my book-loving heart that breaks with the betrayal. G.A. Aiken makes you feel connected to The Blacksmith Queen, her loyal Princess Knight, and the motley crew who stand with them. She also gives you a clear target with the very greedy, deceitful, and unemotional Beatrix. I know where my loyalty lies. The family dynamics are a little crazy with siblings Keeley, Gemma, Beatrix, Ainsley, and a whole bunch of other brothers and sisters we haven’t formally met yet. Beatrix, obviously, is not really part of the family. She showed no loyalty, love, or care for her family, so she’s out and I’m very satisfied that in this instalment she reinforced the need to completely ostracise her. I really can’t see the author redeeming her, to be honest. Between Keeley, Gemma, and Ainsley, they squabble like most siblings but it’s obvious they love and care for each other. We also have the centaur siblings Cade, Laila and Quinn (forgive me if I've spelt their names wrong). Again, they squabble but they definitely have each other’s backs. So, we get to the romance… or maybe lack of romance, part of the story. You’re going to laugh at this but it kind of worked. See, Gemma and Quinn are not mushy gushy people so we weren’t going to 'see' them pining over each other. They’ve seen some truly horrible stuff since the *War of Sisters* (my words, not a quote) began. Gemma is a War Monk who deals death blows daily. While she is passionate, she’s never really had the time or inclination to dedicate to someone who she could love. Quinn is such a great character with a dry sense of humour I really appreciate. He is strong, a great fighter, and very proud whether he has two legs or four.Initially, Quinn and Gemma seem odd together, because they appear to hate each other. I even had to go back to the blurb to work out who the main couple was supposed to be. When they do eventually connect, it’s a blink and you could miss it type of connection. But, you realise that is was just the final piece to their love story that needed to be placed. The Princess Knight was everything I hoped for and more. Packed with action, adventure, intrigue and a huge dose of humour, I loved every minute of it. I’m just sorry it took me days to get it read. I’m tempted to read it again when I can dedicate some serious hours to reading. I kind of miss those days where I could dedicate hours on end to sit and concentrate on a book. While I still love reading, there are too many things going on in my world… our world, that's messing with my concentration. If you haven’t read a G.A. Aiken and love para/fantasy with a decent dose of humour, I highly recommend giving The Scarred Earth Saga a try.Stacey is Sassy, received an advanced copy of this story. LOVE this series - definitely more fantasy than romance
[I received an electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]Fantastic!! I *LOVE* this series. It's so smart and sassy. The world-building is fantastic. There's a romance component, but for me this is more of a fantasy novel than a straight-up romance. And I love the extra richness of the focus on family, and allies and enemies, in addition to the romance.I wasn't sure I would like the shift from a focus on Keeley in the first book to the focus on Gemma here, but I loved it. I never got a great feel for Gemma in the last book, so all of the character development here was excellent. I have my fingers crossed that the third book might be from Ainsley's perspective because she was a special delight in this book. This is far more violent and gory than I usually like in my reading. But the characters, the world, and the story are so exceptional that I keep reading past the blood and death in order to find out what will happen next for these characters. Don't miss this series! Entertaining, Action-Packed, & Witty!
The Princess Knight is the second book in The Scarred Earth Saga by G.A. Aiken and Narrated by Mia Barron.I love Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, which The Scarred Earth Sage series is in the same world, just a different part, so I was very excited to start this second book. I loved The Blacksmith Queen and The Princess Knight didn’t disappoint.Like most of Aiken’s books it’s pure chaos, jumping from one POV to the next. This is typical Aiken style and best to just go with the flow and not dive deeper into the meaning of things. It’s also got a dysfunctional family, disorders, name-calling, gore, violence, lots of hilarious banter and action. We start The Princess Knight two years after the conclusion of The Blacksmith Queen. This time around we get to dive into Gemma’s life, the War Monk sister. Besides that we still have Keely trying to defeat her ruthless power hungry sister Beatrix and deal with another threat targeting different religious sects and stealing valuable powerful artifacts.Gemma is our star in this novel. She’s fierce on and off the battlefield. She gave up her War Monk calling to help Keely, but she must return back to her War Monk home and things have changed. We learn more about her, her journey to become a War Monk and how she’s worried for Keely and her family. We do get a romance thou the story doesn’t focus on it. It does make for a nice addition. It’s clear from the start that Quinn and Gemma have a strong connection. Their banter is fun and highlights their chemistry. I enjoyed the romance. One of the aspects I like about Aiken’s Fantasy series is the strong fierce women she portrays. They are all intelligent and strong in their own way and yes they get partners, but their partners complement them and improve their kick-ass ness.Narration: Mia Barron did a great job. She uses subtle clues to indicate the quick moving changes in POV. Each character has a unique speaking voice. I enjoyed the preference and pace.Last, I have to just mention the epilogue. OMG I did a happy dance; because I’m a fan of Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, so I can’t wait for the next. All and all The Princess Knight was a nice listen and fun adventure.Rated: 4 Stars

Another good book from Aiken
I am addicted to Shelly's books. Any mediocre book of hers is much better than other authors ... so you have my disclaimer. There is very little romance and a lot of travelling but it is satisfactory as the middle of the journey, and I cannot wait for the next.

escapism and madness, love it
Do love this author and the mayhem and hilarity that follows her characters. Second in the series and I love all the different characters and paranormal beasts on the side of Queen Keeley. Starting to get annoyed with Beatrice and her evil supporters and can’t wait for her to be annihilated. Loving the introduction of my favourite dragons. On to the next one.

Worth Every Dollar Paid
I anxiously awaited this book and not only was it worth the wait, but it is also worth a 5 star rating. I could not put this book down, it is so well written I felt as though I was in the story. The Princess Knight begins right where The Blacksmith Queen ended. As always, I laughed my head off at the antics of Gemma, Quinn, Cain, Keeley and the poor forgotten sister Ainsley (can't wait for her book). There was no lag in the storyline, non-stop action, drama, evil, and of course laughter. I can't give away the storyline (hint, hint), BUT.... I loved the ending so much I want the next book TODAY! I was desperately hoping this was the direction G.A. Aiken was going with this new series and I am ecstatic! If you are a fan and haven't had a chance, I highly recommend you read her Dragon Kin Series because you will not be disappointed. I also STRONGLY recommend her books in The Honey Badger Chronicles, Call of the Crows, and Magnus Pack Series. In case you cannot tell I am a huge fan and have all of her books.
