Bahama Mama's Cooking

Being born and raised in the Bahamas before relocating to America, I find this book close to Authentic. I was looking for a book that can keep me somewhat culturly (correct my spelling) invested in my background. Plus it would be nice to be able to have all or as many recipes as possible. My reason for four stars is, I couldn't find certain traditional recipes right away because they had unfamiliar names. Also, often times, I felt it wasnt as detailed enough on as far as instructing you as the cook, when creating your meal. The book over all is great though. Loved how the meals are categorized and etc.

After purchasing two 'gently used' cookbooks ('Sea to Shore & Slim to Shore) at a marine trading post, I was thrilled to discover that I could orderived other cookbooks by Capt. Jan Robinson through Amazon. Every recipe that I've tried while entertaining guests has been a hit - guests all requested the recipes.

I ran short of gift souvenirs from our Bahama trip so found this on Amazon and ordered this for a friend. I liked it so much I ordered another for someone else plus myself. Good basic recipes that you will actually use! There is a gingerbread cake that I made for Christmas and I think it will have to be a tradition now to make that each year.

Receive my package today and became very diassappointed after opening it and seeing that it was damage from the front through a few of the pages .The tear by the letter 'B' went straight through like someone ran a sharp object through it.Also i wouldnt advise anyone to purchase this book thinking they could learn bahamian recipes.I was born bahamian and the names and recipe to the dishes is a lie . This is not island cooking. I am from cat island and just to name a few .The conch salad recipe is wrong the johnny cake recipe is wrong .

A lot of good Bahamian recipes.

I bought this for a bahamian bridal shower. Some recipes were a hit! But some recipes didn't work out well, and I had to add extra ingredients. (Coconut cookies.)

Some of these recipes will make you a glutton. They were so good. I won't tell you which ones though. Get the book and try some for yourself.
