Another Winner for Sloan
in spite of what some reviewers wrote, I thought this was a very good book, and it kept me intrested and reading from the first page. The bombing of an abortion clinic has been done many times before, but Ms Sloan, in her inimitable style, brought the characters alive for me, and kept the action going. Of course, I love courtroom dramas if they are done well, and I felt this was done very well. I have enjoyed all of Ms Sloan's books, and continue to be a fan. I wish she would write some more as I do love her novels. I think if you start reading this book, you won't be able to put it down. A very good read.

Excellent
Nothing more needs to be commented on about this story. 'Excellent' says it all. One of those stories that you can't put down and hate for the ending to come.

I love court room drama and this one didn't disappoint
This was a book that grabbed my interest on first page. I love court room drama and this one didn't disappoint. An abortion clinic is bombed and one hundred fifty people are killed. An all American naval officer is the suspect and it's all up to a savvy defense attorney to prove his fate. This book has many twists that keeps you turning the pages.

Court Room drama about bombing of an abortion clinic
This book was a real page turner and kept me riveted to the end. The suspect in the dock - was he guilty or did the police frame him? What is the agenda of the anti-abortion movement? What about women's rights groups who want abortion freely available? How does a man feel when he finds out his child has been aborted without his knowledge or consent? These questions and more are expertly posed in this compelling novel. Susan Sloan is an excellent writer, and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Flawed, but a good read
This novel tells the story of a bomb planted in a community medical center which, among many other functions, performs abortions. Over 100 people, many of them children at a daycare center, are killed by the bombing. When a clean-cut young naval officer, Corey Latham, is charged with the crime, Sloan's heroine Dana McAuliffe finds herself in charge of his defense. The key to this book is supposed to be the way it covers the social controversies around abortion, but I found that aspect of the story silly and almost cartoonish. No remotely mainstream anti-choice advocate would openly embrace a bombing that killed over 100 people, many of them children, in no way involved with abortions, as they do in this book. A major subplot involves a tangled and ultimately unconvincing conspiracy to use the trial to influence the Presidential election. And pro-choice advocates are treated as equally cynical, not only believing, but openly saying, that they want the acused bomber executed whether or not he's actually guilty. The cast of characters is too large for most to emerge as believable people. But McAuliffe, her best friend, Latham, the judge, and some other key characters are nicely presented and do come alive enough to interest the reader. This story centers on the trial, which makes it unfortunate that the jury verdict is never explained. The jury is protrayed in one scene as deeply divided, the next time we see them they have, with no explanation, a verdict. In spite of the faults, the book works well as a thriller. I certainly kept the pages turning, and would probably have read it all in one day if my schedule had permitted it.As for what really happened, Sloan doesn't show her cards until the final page. Some reviewers here seem to have found the ending too predictable or otherwise disappointing, but I had no problems with it.
