Aredium was created by an eye surgeon whose father was diagnosed with macular degeneration. His goal was to create a superior vitamin formula based on the research done by the National Eye Institute (NEI) in the original Areds study on 2001 and the follow up Areds 2 study in 2006. Originally Aredium was offered in 2 variations, An Areds Non Smoker Formula and an Areds Smoker Formula. The Areds 2 study recommended a modification to the original formula replacing beta carotene with Lutein and Zeaxanthin. Since the inclusion of beta carotene was the only diffeence between the non smokers formula and the smokers formula Aredium is now available in 1 product formula good for both, smokers and non smokers. In a buffered tablet form with a modified vegetable coating, Aredium is easy to swallow and slowly breaks down for complete absorption. Only Aredium contains not only the AREDS formulation, but the powerful antioxidants bilberry, lycopene, zeaxanthin, and lutein. lycopene.
