Dyscalculia: from Science to Education

Best Book on Science of Dyscalculia
For the past few years I have been reading everything I can about Dyscalculia. This is the first book I have found that had a great amount of science and research, and also practical help on what to do for dyscalculic learners. It was a bit of a technical read, you have to stick with all the studies and tests, but Butterworth does an excellent job of summarizing the findings to make it accessible. Everything I read seemed spot on with my own experience of my daughter's Dyscalculia and what I have found to be helpful so far. This book does a deep dive (as deep as is able at this point, with still so little known or studies about Dyscalculia) in a way I have not seen in any other books yet. I hope that is spurs on further movement and study and understanding about Dyscalculia. Thank you for writing this excellent book, Professor Butterworth.

Fantastic Resource
This is an incredible resource for teachers. It is written plainly enough that it's easy to read, but it doesn't dumb the science down at all. Every claim is backed up with scientific studies and specific examples. It strikes a good balance between the science behind what dyscalculia is, and the "now what?"--how does that affect teaching, testing, policy-making, etc. As I was reading, I had many aha moments, and it reinforced so many of my hunches and suspicions over the years. Students with dyscalculia really are different from other students who struggle with math, and need different instruction and different supports. This book perfectly explains why and how--at least as much as we know so far!
