Beat the Heart Attack Gene: The Revolutionary Plan to Prevent Heart Disease, Stroke, and Diabetes

Good health advice.
This is a really a good resource if interested in good heart and cardiovascular health. Reading can be a little technical and difficult but overall understandable to the average layman. The greatest problem is application and follow through.

Excellent, CURRENT information
Excellent book for people with any level of concern about their cardiac / arterial health or their risk of arterial disease, including heart attacks or strokes. First third convinces you why you should read and trust the rest of the book. Second third is about the tests and studies that you should get and use. The third third includes information about diet, exercise, supplements and other related stuff.PROS:--Information is very current and supported by science and studies.--Information is hard to find elsewhere, especially in one place.--Authors are critical of current medical "standards of care", but are also supportive of the other doctors who want to learn or do a better job for their patients, and clearly want to coordinate with people's current doctors--Focus is on PREVENTION, not just response to symptoms.--Written clearly, without a lot of medical jargon, so it's not hard to understand.CONS:--Lots of self-promotion, especially in the first third of the book. The first third is convincing you why you should read the book, which seems like a lot more than necessary to me.

This book came highly recommended to me by my doctor
This book came highly recommended to me by my doctor. I haven't read it in its entirety, but so far the information seems sound. There have been advances in the treatment of the circulatory system that are amazing. This book contains the latest information available in the field. The delivery time for my order was more than satisfactory. I would use this company again.

Change the standard for care for Cardiovascular Disease - low carb with intermittent fasting
Great book. Easy to read. The information in this book is eye opening.Proven or not, the medical establishment - FDA, American Heart Association and the cardiovascular medical resources, including surgeons etc, should be screaming from atop a mountain trying to change diet the American diet to reverse the widespread disease caused from metabolic syndrome and diabetes in this country. We could afford healthcare again. It isn’t complicated. Eat real food - a whole lot less sugars and carbs.Too bad special interests would not allow our government to do it. It’s fraud and treason. This book is 7 years old and intermittent fasting and a low carbohydrate diet are only being discussed a little bit in the mainstream. Not the standard of care.

FINALLY AN UNDERSTANDING FOR MY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAU
This explained WHY I stopped losing weight. I've tried for years to get below 192 lbs. I started at 200 and when I cut out soda, cookies and ice cream I could drop the 8 lbs to 192 BUT NEVER GET BELOW 192. The book explains that when you STILL take in ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS that it signals the body to prepare for glucose. Now, it doesn't spike your insulin BUT when no sugars come down the throat the body goes into a craving mode. The body doesn't send the hormone signals to shut off because there was no glucose to send the signal. So, you constantly munch on stuff which is extra calories and your body-weight stays at that plateau. The answer is that you have to cut out sugars AND sweeteners in order for your body to "normalize" and become sensitive to insulin again. We saturate ourselves with sugars and sweeteners and then wonder why we have an obesity epidemic. Getting rid of sugar was hard enough for me but when I checked for artificial sweeteners it was really surprising. My pre-workout drink powder contains sucralose as does my protein powder. I'm 73 years old and really depended on the energy boost from that workout powder. But, I threw it all out. The protein powder I felt I really needed for muscle repair after a hard workout and there wasn't THAT much sucralose in it. Over the past 4 or 5 days, I've managed to drop below the dreaded 192 to 188. Hopefully, the trend will continue as I want to get back to my high school weight of 160.OH, NOTE THAT EATING SUGARY THINGS PROMPTS YOU TO EAT MORE SUGARY THINGS. Ever eat just ONE cookie? Of course not. That's why they sell cookies BY THE BOX and that box full disappears pretty quickly, doesn't it? Also note that the AHA recommends only 37 gms for men PER DAY. The WHO only recommends 25 gms. HOW MUCH DO YOU CONSUME?

lifesaving, inspiring, readable, actionable
this book can transform anyone’s life for the better and more fulfilled. if you are living a standard lifestyle eating standard food you likely have “arteries on fire” without knowing it, accumulating scars and plaque that will one day take away your hopes and dreams. if you are getting typical standard of care medical treatment your harried doctor might not see anything actionable and let this go until one day you need stents or bypass surgery for your heart and alzheimer’s care for your failing mind. instead read this book and learn about the tests and lifestyle factors that you can use to improve your healthspan.

Just the job.
Reading this whilst I listen to the audiobook whilst the cardiologist is suggesting an angiogram. Not sure about the angiogram but this book does what it's supposed to do- informs you of what you need to know should you have heart disease. I recommend this very highly.
