The string lets you open the bed flat or tie it up for your small pet to snuggle in. The puppy seems to love it. The only thing I didn't care for was the bright gold tie string with the pink bed. It would have been much prettier with a pink draw-string. I would recommend this but also, sometimes it leans to one side.
