The Story of the Moors in Spain: A History of the Moorish Empire in Europe; their Conquest, Book of Laws and Code of Rites

This book is excellent and very enlightening, despite what some of the critics say. It discusses many hisorical things, such as a Moor named Tarif, who played a significant role in the Moors' conquering of Spain. It also talks about the many positive contributions the Moors brought to Spain after their conquest.It never ceases to amaze me how many Caucasians will constantly go to great lengths to take credit for any major and significant civilizations/empires, events, or creations in history. Their pseudo sense of superiority is so dependent upon their view of blacks as inferior that they feel threatened by anything that challenges that identity or reveals otherwise. As a result, they try to manipulate, scoff at, and discredit anything to uphold their beliefs and pseudo-identity. It's been acceptable for people of African descent to be taught and to accept the false belief that the world and universe revolves around Caucasians. Yet, to give Blacks even an ounce of credit in that world/universe is too much for the egos of many Caucasians to accept/handle, even those with supposedly "good intentions." Nevertheless, the obvious lack of credit to people of African descent for any constructive contribution (not slavery) to history is a red flag as NO group has existed on this planet without having some positive influence or impact. And you will not convince me that Africans have existed in that part of the world for centuries without having civilizations, government, inventions, culture, etc. The author of this book has done a great job in depicting the identity of the Black Moors, as well as their contribution to Europe and history in general.When it was FINALLY realized that the Egyptians couldn't have been Caucasian, some Caucasians decided to consciously incorporate the present-day phenotypically lighter Arabs (but with a genotype revealing African heritage) as White, as they have done with many other groups over the years. God forbid that black people be credited with building pyramids, being kings and queens, inventing things, dominating, etc., right? Are you truly going to convince me that those people, who have lived in that part of the world side-by-side and mixed for CENTURIES, with both faint and strong African features, do not have African heritage? As Caucasians in America feel they are the minority, they will consciously and unconsciously incorporate a new group as white. Welcome Latinos/Hispanics (those light enough to be deemed acceptable) and Asians.The constant audacity of Caucasians, especially Americans, whose "civilization" (let's speak honestly) has basically existed FAR LESS longer than those in AFRICA, Asia, and the Middle East, to try to be more "experts" about the aforementioned regions' history, than the people within those specific regions or civilizations is baffling. What's funny is, despite all the manipulating of history that's been done, the truth continues to come to the surface, specifically from a source that's been present all the time: DNA.You can play as gods, but you will never be God.

This book is such a great classic that I had to refer to it in my book: The Real Wakandas of Africa. Many people have heard of the Moors but do not realize the impact that they had upon Europe. They also don’t know that the Moors were Black people who conquered Europe for 781 years. This is not to take away from the Arab Moors. However, the influence of Africans upon Europe was considerable in a number of areas. This book gives the reader details about some of these areas. Moorish contributions spanned a number of academic fields and this book provides clear details about these contributions. Some of these fields included Astronomy, medicine and Mathematics. The Moors brought a university system to Spain. They influenced life, culture and medicine in Europe. They also had a considerable impact upon the architecture of Spain. Africans contributions of giant construction feats throughout history are often ignored. For example, in a book that I wrote: The Great Wall of Africa: The Empire of Benin’s 10,000 Mile Long Wall, I discuss another African construction marvel that contains more material than all of the buildings in New City’s Manhattan. Yet this was the first popular history book written about the Great Wall of Africa, the world’s greatest structure. Why is the world’s greatest structure unknown? In many ways, The Story of the Moors in Spain is very similar because it was an early attempt to get the word out about a little known portion of African history and it’s impact on Europe. This knowledge is all too often brushed over in history classes. The Moors encouraged an age of enlightenment in Europe when there was darkness (the dark ages). In fact, there is evidence to support the idea that European enlightenment scholars were influenced by Moorish scholars. If the reader approaches this book with the understanding that it is an older classic, then it will be appreciated. Please pick up a copy today!

This book is not a hard read but it isn't simple either. There is a lot of back story which can get boring but it is necessary to understand and engage with the interesting more juicy parts. If you truly want a better grasp of dark skinned people, I recommend this book. It may also elude to answers why dark skinned people are treated so unkindly around the world by specific cultures.Happy Reading

This book is a very interesting read about the Moors. The flow of the book was fine in my opinion. After reading Golden Age of the Moors, this book was a good addition to my learning about the North African, Northwest African Moors (would be considered Black by United States racial standards) and the Arab makeup of the Moorish Armies that invaded and conquered Medieval Spain. Also, Spain being part of a Northwest African Moorish Empire ruled under Islamic law, for a time, is good to know.More importantly the Moorish contributions in Math, Astronomy, University system, and Architecture to Spain in particular and Europe as a whole. Definitely not taught in school until I got to college.I would have liked to see more maps of the various Moorish campaigns in Spain.

The topic is interesting but I can't find anything that reads well. To me, this book was a slog. Maybe there's a book out there that is more of an updated version of this topic. It's good if you have trouble falling asleep, I suppose.

Its a good book, and very captivating. The story about the Moors byStanley Lane-Poole is riveting and full of information about thedifferent people and cultures.

A very informative , and interesting read.

History can never be a dull subject. A jolly good read. Enlightening. It was good to see what brought Europe out of what has been referred to as the dark ages of over 1000 years. Who would have believed it had it not been for historians and researchers. The truth is always refreshing.
