Why are some gems undiscovered?
Archie Fisher has come a long way since his first albums decades ago in Scotland. He has always had a strong following in Great Britain and in Canada, but somehow is not well known in the US. That is our loss.Several years ago I had the opportunity to see him perform in Palmer, Alaska in a little coffee shop packed to the eaves with Alaskans in love with the music of Scotland and Ireland. He mesmerized us all, the fisher capturing us, like salmon in the sea, in his musical nets. Fisher is no longer young and when he sings and talks it is with the wistfulness, the humor and the wisdom of a long life. These are not all songs that he wrote, but they are all songs that he brings to vibrant life. This is an album that is fresh and alive; the music of a extraordinary modern balladeer. One could believe that Fisher is sharing the loves, the lessons and the trials of his own life. Such talent makes for stonishing musical experiences. To listen to this album is to explore the universals of the human experience. Fisher is a huge talent and this is an album which allows us to savor that talent.

Archie Fisher, "Sunsets I've Galloped Into"
Archie Fisher has become a staple among Celtic and Folk music aficianados. Many years ago, I taped a folk music show from the radio, and the tape ended with a song I liked very much, but before the announcer identified it. Then more recently, I attended a house concert here in Champaign, IL with the Irish group Chulrua. Singer Pat Egan sang the son "My Mountain" and told me it was one of Archie's. Since then, I've found several Archie Fisher CDs and heard some of his songs sung by others as "standards." On this CD, "Ashfields and Brine" is one such standard. "The Presence" is such a beautiful song that I asked my guitar teacher help me do a setting I can sing as well. So . . . if you like this CD, you'll love the more recent "Windward Away." I do.

My favorite Archie Fisher album
I first heard the song Silver Coin on Thistle and Shamrock and bought this on vinyl then very same day. I listen to it at least once a week. Archie is an amazing songwriter and I believe this is the best of his albums.

Archie Fisher Sunsets I've Galloped Into
Lovely beautiful CD with superb guitar work. Archie's voice is one I could listen to all day long and I find myself repeating this album as I do others among my favorites. A new "favorite" for me and I'm sorry I did not discover his work sooner!!

A different kind of folk
Archie Fisher. a familiar figure in Scottish folk music but little known in the U.S.A.. presents these fresh and somewhat unfamiliar folk songs with clear diction and feeling. His "Black Horse" poem is wonderful.
