Nice set for home mani's and pedi's
There's just a few items from Barefoot Scientist that I've not tried at this point, and this file set is one of them. Since all the other products I've tried have been great to outstanding, I had high expectations for this set. Did it meet them? Mostly - the set is well made, works well, easy to use, easy to clean, and small enough to take with me. The glass file shapes and shortens your nails (and does a great job - I'm never using a metal or grit-coated file again). I love that it is also easy to clean and sanitize, doesn't have the burrs that are common with metal files, and I don't have to worry that it will rust. The triangle file is for use after you file the nail surface down with the glass file. You can keep your nails smooth and shiny without using polish so your nails get a chance to heal and breathe after long periods of being covered in polish, gels, or acrylics. The one thing this set is missing is a case, even just for the glass file. Like any other files, this one will pick up fuzz if left to float in your purse, bag, drawer, or makeup case. And while the glass file is sturdy, it is breakable. I've dropped mine a couple of times from both sitting and standing heights and it's not broken, but if it's in a bag/purse that constantly gets tossed around, there's a good chance it will end up chipped or snapped in half if it's not somehow protected.Price-wise this set is right where you'd expect it to be for a known brand. Glass files are usually a few dollars apiece, and good quality buffer blocks are around $4.99-ish. I'm not worried that this buffer block will start to peel or fall apart after only a few uses like the cheap foam kind. Can you find sets like this that work just as well for less? Absolutely. Like anything with a brand name you end up paying extra for it. I like Barefoot Scientist because they stand behind their products and have great customer service even if you don't purchase one of their products directly from their website. Of course I prefer to purchase their products on sale, though. If this set were $6.99, I think that would be more appropriate.

Good Starter Set to the World of Glass Files
The Barefoot Scientist filing and buffing kit is a pretty decent kit that opened me up to the world of glass files. Up until recently, I had been using this metal file I got from one of those cheap grooming kits, which I have since learned is actually too abrasive on your nails. Upon using the glass file, it immediately made the edges of my nails look like glass. Somehow the glass file can better seal the natural nail during filling, unlike a regular metal or cardboard filer. You can also wash the glass filer in water or wipe down with alcohol to clean it! The nail buffer was pretty standard and wasn't anything revolutionary like the glass file.Since getting this kit, I ended up purchasing another glass file, and it turns out that certain glass files. have more abrasiveness than others, and I think this one is a little less abrasive. If you haven't used a glass file before, this may be a good starting point to see if you would like it or not.

Mixed thoughts
This is a decent set at a reasonable price. The three sided buffer is really nice since the panels are affixed to a solid surface which greatly enhances the stability.Honestly, my issue is with the nail file. It's not a bad file, the way it is ridged it can be used holding it in any direction. It is a thick file, so it makes it difficult to file down by the lateral fold (the side of the nail by the skin), which is really frustrating if you have a hangnail. The protective case is a nice feature, but it is difficult to open and I am used to cases where the file handle clips into the case like a lid; this one is not like that.

❤️👍🏻👌🏻
Now that I e been using a glass nail file, I could never go back to an Emory board or metal file. I think the glass works best if you start out ‘light-handed’- you won’t realize how much it’s taking off. They also work best (like all files) if you go in only one direction instead of back&forth. This is a really nice set- the glass file comes in its own little protective case. Also, these are so much more hygienic that a traditional file- it can be easily washed with warm soapy water and wiped dry. Super easy! Nice ‘stocking stuffer’ type gift, especially for anyone who hasn’t tried a glass nail file!
