Jean Auel Paperback – November 1, 1992

I read the original series about 40 years ago, and they were a favorite of mine at that time. I ended up giving them away years later, but then was sorry. When I saw the first book for sale at a used book shop recently I happily bought it. Upon reading it I noticed that it had been reworked & embellished. Much more research had gone into these books! I happily bought the new set of 6 books, thinking I'd pass them on to my granddaughter at a later time. By Book 2 the story had progressed to a much more adult retelling of their "Pleasures." Just a warning ⚠️ not for youngsters. Still a beautiful read, tho.

I really enjoyed this series! It is interesting to think about what it was like for early humans. The book is fiction obviously, but the details about the climate, plants, art, hunting, and peoples agree with what you might see on a Nova or National Geographic program.

I purchased this for a friend who had not yet experienced Jean Auel's writing and the Earth's Children's storyline, just to be straight forward. They read in Paperback only due to poor eyesight.Of course this caused me to jump right back into book one Clan of the Cave Bear and it was suddenly just as it had been more than 30 years ago, and awesome trip.Jean Auel is a storyteller of the order of Mark Twain, Stephen King. She took our past wove it with very little fiction, and spun a story of a Little Cro-Magnon girl who is found half dead, taken in by Neanderthals and raised. Ayla, a classic figurine who isn't just for making a good story, but there to teach and lead the reader. The reason she can do that is because Jean Auel took the time to investigate, visit the areas, listen to long scientific lectures, weigh the evidence, ignore most of the misinformation others were writing, visit dig site, study the analysis of bones that told more than just a slight story, but a very deep history. She did that to make her story of the little girl Ayla as truthful as anyone can who has not been there; and let's face it, none of us have.I read a few of her books, and then I hit Documentaries, Lecture-Videos, Forensic and Paleontologist lectures, and soon I was hooked. I still am. What I found was all of that evidence she used to tell us a past that truly existed. As a storyteller, as a writer, and a researcher, she has an edge few other writers have. I recommend her wholeheartedly, you will fall in love with the story and be compe3lled to follow the six book series to its end. Author Wendell Sweet (Geo Dell)

Auel creates a fantastic, strong, beautiful, brave, innocent, down-to-earth lady that will forever be part of me. Well balanced with interpersonal, emotional, physical, and spiritual conflicts and struggles along with rich botanical and hunting and primitive survival details. These are books that are hard to put down. I read the first two 20+ years ago and had to find them to read them again. This time I'm reading the whole set. Thank you Jean Auel for your labor of love in writing these beautiful books!!

Stress on rules and physical differences between groups. Appearance, posture, diet, clothing, gender roles. And linguistic skills. Lots of graphic descriptions of sex acts!Interesting details about creating weapons, complex recipes, surviving bad weather, and developing medical skills.

Looking forward to re-reading this great series!

This is one of the best series I'v ever read! If your looking for a book series to get into for a while, this is a must buy.
