Very helpful resource when discovering your child has SPD
I like this book, I think it was a great Segway for my husband and mother in law to learn more about SPD & mindfulness techniques that can be utilized with it. After getting an evaluation with the occupational therapist on what sensory seeking or avoiding my son does it was even more beneficial since she breaks done what to try based on their sensory needs. I would definitely recommend this book. I will also add that I am a licensed therapist and found it to be very appropriate & educational as both parents of a child with SPD & clinician.

Helpful and useable, recommend to everyone
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher and chose to give this book a review. As a parent with a child who has sensory processing disorder, this book is wonderful. The information is accessible for the common parent, like me. I love the way the author explained foreground and background senses, self-regulation, and mindfulness. There isn't an overload of information, either. By page 27 the reader is introduced to the activities we can do with our children. There are helpful case examples (stories) and the activities include helpful tips and age ranges. The activities are broken into sensory over- and under-responsiveness, and sensory seeking.I recommend this book to anyone who works with children and adolescents who struggle to focus or stay calm. Quite frankly, these activities will help all children, not just the ones with sensory processing disorder.I'm excited to have this book in my home library, and use it often.

Great for teaching children coping mechanisms, mindfulness, emotional regulation, etc.
My daughter has had tactile issues with clothing to the point where I wondered if she might have some sort of sensory processing disorder. I felt this book gave a good description of SPD and the different types and what sort of behaviors may be triggered by them. After reading the book, I am certain my daughter is fortunate as she only has a few mild sensory issues to cope with. I do feel the activities in this book are beneficial to her as a young child to help her learn coping mechanisms, mindfulness, emotional regulation, etc. I especially liked the activities for “sensory seeking” as I think they’d be great to entertain and settle children with high energy levels (like my daughter). I do wish there was more information about tactile defensiveness because getting dressed has been a huge struggle for us. Other than that, I recommend this book to parents and teacher of children who face sensory challenges.Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher and was encouraged, but not obligated to leave an honest review.

Incredibly beneficial and useful for parents and teachers
This review is based on a copy received from the publisher. Opinions are my own.For parents who have just heard the diagnosis sensory processing disorder or the teacher who is new to including children with SPD, this book offers sounds advice and activities that can immediately be used to benefit the child and family. The book is broken down into two parts. Part one works to explain the different aspects of sensory processing disorder and how not all cases can be treated the same. It discusses how mindfulness practices and self-regulation activities can benefit a child and help them move through an activity or moment in time. Part two gives specific activities that can be used at home or school from children aged 3-12 to address the needs of different types of SPD. The post script gave many other useful books, websites and recommended readings.

Highly Recommended!!! Amazing Book! Easy to Read and Great Activities that We Can Do at Home!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! The author, Dr. Stephanie Foster breaks down into simple terms the various aspects of sensory processing issues that many of our children struggle with in every day life. I have read numerous books on SPD over the years and have gained quit a bit of knowledge. Typically those books were very "wordy" instead of giving you the concrete knowledge that you need to know to help your child. This book is well layed out and gives you activity ideas that you can do as a parent without purchasing expensive equipment. She has broken down the activities by sensory area (e.g. proprioception, vestibular, visual tracking, etc.) that your child might need for either "under-responsiveness" or "sensory seeking" to help regain self-regulation. This is a must have book if you child struggles with sensory processing issues, autism, ADHD, etc. I wish my child lived closer to Dr. Foster's clinical practice, she has a wealth of professional experience in helping our kiddos!

Helpful for working with my son, and for me!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone. My son has a diagnosis of SPD, and this book helps quite a bit in working on building his coping skills toolbox like he is learning in therapy. His counselor was excited when we showed her the book, and I plan on getting her a copy for her shelf to recommend to other parents.

A great resource to help children with sensory difficulties!
I was interested in this book as someone with sensory sensitivities myself, particularly tactile, and as someone who loves a sensory-seeking child. I can easily say that this is a great addition to the Sensory Processing Disorder books available. Author Stephanie Foster divides the book into two parts. First, she discusses what SPD is. The second part is full of activities for children with various sensory sensitivities or seeking behaviors. Each activity is fully explained and can be adjusted depending on the child. I look forward to trying some of these out with my sensory-seeker!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I think this book is helpful for any kid to help kids self-regulate and be more mindful.
I loved the scientific background information of sensory processing disorder. Each activity in the book has the age range, activity type, what you’ll need, the directions, and the benefit of each activity.I think even if your child doesn’t have sensory processing disorder, these activities are very helpful for developing their senses more.I received a complimentary copy of this book from Callisto Publishers and was under no obligation to post a review.
