Terminator Salvation: Director's Cut

Underrated
On rewatch after several years, I realized how underrated this was compared to the others which aren’t really even worth mentioning. Like most Hollywood productions it gets hurried towards the end and a little sloppy, but I really enjoy Kripke’s style and his passion makes this one stand out in the franchise.

Not the traditional Terminator...but great anyway
(**Contains minor spoilers**)First off, this is not Arnold's Terminator. If you're expecting the same thing as the first three, you'll be disappointed by this movie. Nor is it a serious philosophical work. It is simply a continuation of the first three, from a somewhat different -- but not contradictory -- light. The story follows John Connor and Marucs Wright, two very different individuals whose fates nonetheless seem intertwined. Connor leads a raid against one of Skynet's prisoner-holding facilities; in the process, many die. Connor makes it out alive, but so does someone else...Wright, who was being held in the facility, emerges a few minutes after Connor is extricated. Thus begins a long, twisted path on which both men embark. Along the way, they find themselves on the same team -- often doubting the other's intentions -- and yet at odds when the dark secret of Wright's resurrection -- after his execution before Judgment Day -- comes to light.Meanwhile, they learn that Skynet is using them both to ensnare Connor as well as Kyle Reese, in order to manipulate history in their own favor; at the same time, Skynet is manipulating the Resistance itself, offering up a sort of "Trojan Horse" in order to take out high command. There are many twists and turns along the rocky road to "Salvation" -- personal, and of the Resistance -- but both men make the journey. In the end, one will sacrifice all to give the other a chance at life. Now, aside from my brief retelling (trying not to give away too much), my opinion. It's very well done, and highly enjoyable, to me at least. Obviously, there are many who disagree. But I enjoyed the twists and turns, and actually saw the movie several times while it was playing at my local theater. Would I recommend seeing it before you buy it? Yes, if for no other reason because so many are so disappointed in it. I, however, think it is one of the best, if not the best, in the series -- certainly better than 2 and 3 imho. Keep in mind that my parents were from the generation that saw and loved the first two in theaters, and I'm not; and, frankly, I don't know how much my Dad -- who loved the first -- would care for this one. I approach this having seen the first two around when T3 (which I wasn't terribly fond of) came out. Also, this is best seen more than once to make certain that you catch everything; for a "light" movie (which it certainly is), it tends to jump about, and make sudden detours. Not unpleasantly, to me at least, but there it is. My advice? See it with an open mind, and don't expect a masterpiece. If you do, you might like it; I personally thought it was awesome.

Terrific War Scenes and Fantastic Special Effects!
It goes without saying that the "best" Terminator film was the first, simply because it *was* the first! There is something to be said for originality, after all. Still I am far more impressed with "Terminator Salvation" for a couple of reasons:First, the theme of the other Terminator films is worn out. How many times can we watch a film about one terminator chasing some people all over the country before it gets old? I always found the brief war scenes in those films far more intriguing, and I often wondered why the script writers did not include a lot more of them. At last, they have! The whole film is about the war, and Skynet is no longer some distant, mostly unseen enemy but a true adversary who is visibly present in every scene. That is what I have wanted to see-- the WAR against the machines!-- not a single terminator chasing people a few people around in circles again.Second, the special effects of this film were awesome. Whatever might be lacking in terms of acting skills (which Terminator film had good acting anyway?), it made up for it with special effects. The Terminators are so realistic that I have literally had a few nightmares about them-- just the kind of scare I love from a movie! The only aspect that lacked realism is that the Terminators seem to be incompetent marksmen for being such advanced machines. How many rounds does it take to hit a target, after all? "Spray and Pray" seems to be how Terminators shoot, which results in far more misses than hits, and that makes little sense to me when our contemporary computer-guided missiles can strike with pinpoint accuracy. It also seems like an awful waste of ammunition to me. Nevertheless, I can see why it is a necessary part of the show. We could not have Terminators who shoot with pinpoint accuracy without blowing away all hope for human victory now, could we? Ah, such unrealistic elements are a necessary evil. This is science *fiction,* after all!All in all, this is my personal favorite of all the Terminator films. It may not have the originality of the first, but it is certainly the most impressive in terms of war scenes and special effects. This is why I am giving it a five-star rating.

Great movie but . . .
I really enjoyed the movie. Great action all good. However I usually do not complain about the discs but this time I am. This is at least six (6) BDs I've received that during the movie, usually somewhere toward the end, it craps out. The screen goes blocking and isn't viewable, but if you wait a few minutes it'll get back to good, but how many minutes did I NOT see. It was the directors' cut BD too!!!!! I would've given this movie a 5 star but not in this case because of a defective disc once again. I hope Amazon starts to take note on this because it sucks, and when you are at the climax of the movie then it craps out, and for about the sixth time, it ticks you off.

Terminator Savation : Mostly great movie with a few flaws.
Terminator Salvation is a great movie and the number 4 of this saga started in 1984 , mostly it reach its target but make a few errors in my point of view like two Terminator models are more like The Transformers (Motobot and Hydrobot). The story is very good and the special effects are simply amazing also the bonus material are not too bad since the Blu-Ray offer menu navigation beyond what simple DVD can do but you should get your Firmware updated for best viewing experience. If you are a fan of Terminator movies i strongly suggest you get also Terminator 4 : Salvation but you should get also Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray and see another Female Terminator called Cameron. The Sarrah Connor Chronicles get deep inside the concept of who , why and how Terminators have been created something the movies cant achives even when it get a long duration movie get Terminator : The Sarrah Chronicles are 31 Episodes of 45 minutes each. Finally to enjoy all of the Terminators movies you must accept to take the time to view them slowly one at a time and if you look around you Skynet the internet network around us is getting the control slowly of all what we use everyday so maybe not to far away from real ....The Movies in Theaters or TV Series about Terminator cant offer what it is available on Blu-Ray : the bonus materials and total control of viewing experience of course buying is more expensive that rental but if you want to be a movie collector that not too expensive. Also if you buy it before december 2010 you get a free download of the movie from iTunes on Mac and also there is an option for PC Windows Users , i use Mac so get a legal copy on my iPhone and it take only about 5 minutes to download and weight about 1.4 Gb in size.

Dont listen to the negative reviews; judge for yourself and you will be suprised.
Thank heavens they where brave enough to break awy from the tired formua of the last 3 movies. Sure the original Terminator was a classic; and the follow-up was a good sequel; but T3 was extremely poor and cheesey but maybe that was partly becuase they were going over the same old ground. What they should of done in T3 was to break away from the old Terminator-sent-back-in-time routine. From now on; when watching the Terminator series of films you should just leave out T3. The actual makers of this 4th movie have even stated that they made this film as a follow-on from film 2; they have completely disregarded the third film ..... as should we; it was that bad and almost ruined the franchise.Terminator 4 then is a refreshing change from the routine. No longer a film from the prespective of the past (our present) they are now telling the story of the future and mans resistance to the machines years after 'Judgement Day'. What is really clever however is that they have also turned the formua in on itself by making the past come to the present although not through any time machine. The action is excellent without getting too over the top. The scenes with the actual early-version terminators are also impressive .... especially since these earlier models being built before Skynet perfected linking living-tissue too machine; making them look almost like zombies or some super-mutant from the Fallout video-games.Honestly, if most people watch this movie with an open mind they will find a film that lives up very well with the first 2 movies and is a lot, lot better than the 3rd. The acting is decent, theres nothing wrong with the script, its not too over-the-top, the characters are interesting and overall this film is an intelligently achieved break from the tired old fomua. Good film.
