The book  Queens Reigns Supreme: Fat Cat, 50 Cent, and the Rise of the Hip Hop Hustler  really depicts the inner circle of the 80's drug culture in South Side Queens. Growing up in Bedstuy,Brooklyn and hanging out in Jamaica, Queens gave me a whole new prospective of the "suburbs". I thought growing up in the projects in Bedstuy was bad enough and it was a condition you could not help. From murders, robberies to stick up kids, you name it, we had it. So when I went to high school in Queens I never thought that kids that grew up in houses, parents with the high paying city jobs could be be so dubious, cut throat and down right murderous all in the name of the almighty dollar from drugs sales. This book slices the cake straight down the middle and lets you taste the filling inside!

Excellent Book, I read the entire book in less than 5 days, and I don't read many books. I lived in the south Jamaica Queens in the 80's, so I can relate to the story of the hustlers and gangsters that were roaming around during that time. The book gives you a peep at a underworld few people actually lived to tell. It blends the drug hustlers of that era with what is going on in Hip Hop these days. The book brillantly captures the rise and fall of the drug lords running Queens in the 80's. This book is hard to put down. Hopefully a lesson will be learned for whom ever reads this book.

The author did a very good job going thru the facts and characters of the time. I really liked that he did not glorify these people. What they did destroyed a neighborhood and many lives. So many young people look up to these selfish, immoral criminals and forget the human, socio economic cost of their self centered activities. Gangsta Rap really glorified this life style without thought to the real cost. It became and still is exploitive and extremely destroctive.

I read it from cover to cover. It's like a history book. It's very informative and interesting

I'm From The Bright Lights And Big City ( New York City ). This Book Is Justifiable To The Actual Events. I Really Enjoy The Part When They Speak About Tupac, I'm Very Upset To Learn Tupac Would Line Biggie Smalls Up To The Shooting That Took Place Over At The Quad Studios When He Was Fully Aware Of The Content Of The Beef That Arose That Event.I Guess Maybe He Didn't Want To Lose Face With His Thug Image!?!. R.I.P CHRISTOPHER WALLACE! AN EXCELLENT BOOK

Great insight into the operations of fat cat and the supreme team. Highly recommend if you're into this kind of crime.

This book was recommended to me after I read 50's autobiography. If you want to understand how the hip hop industry was born out of the East coast then this book is a must. Dre and NWA discovered it on the west coast but the raw grit and sweat, the painful labour and childbirth of hip hop happened right in Queens, New York.It also explains how all the gazillionaire names that we know today started out - Dame, Jay Z, Russell Simmons, The Gotti's, Iyor Cohen, DMX, LL Cool J, RUN DMC & of course 50 cent.Some parts of the book are scary. I could barely put it down. I don't believe this book is strictly for hip hop fans; if you are curious to know how destructive drugs can be or if you are interested in how people survive in deprived ghetto's or more importantly if you want to understand a lot of the issues and beef in hip hop today then this book is very informative.Lastly, with 50's name on the cover, it could throw a lot of people off and result in more interest. His name is brought up in one chapter and the next chapter is dedicated solely to the rise of 50 cent but if you are a 50 fan already then a lot of it won't be new to you.All in all, it was a very good read.
