I'd seen a few reviews suggesting it didn't hold up well with a heavy load of salt, but I've used it twice now, and I REALLY like it. I'm mad at myself for not getting a proper salt spreader sooner. I found the unit to be very sturdy, and the lid very easy to use. There is a divot on the lid that you line up with a trough in the bucket base, and you simply give the lid a 1/4 turn to lock it in place. Having struggled with screw on lids for salt spreaders in my youth, I know that salt gets into the cork-screw threads on an old fashioned screw on lid and eventually makes for a difficult time threading on those lids. But with this one, this 1/4 turn lock on lid is brillian so far. I like it much better than the others I've tried with spiral threaded screw-on lids (admittedly, I used those others many years ago). And, even after filling it 3/4 with salt, I had no trouble using it comfortably to srpead salt on our front stairs and driveway, despite having recently had wrist issues. I was worried it would be uncomfortable or too heavy. But it was very easy to spread salt over a wide area very evenly without any discomfort in my aging and weakening hands and wrists. So, I have no doubt I'll be very happy with this spreader for years to come.

Holds a fair amount of fertilizer. Just be aware it will let water infiltrate.

Planting grass seed spreads seeds evenly and very easily. Well worth the money.

I like the way you fill up the shaker, but the dial gets jammed up when using grass seed. Needs a tighter seal between the dial and the body of the shaker. Even with the shortfalls, it does the job and is probably the best choice out there.

The item is MORE than what I had expected! It is lightweight, durable and easy to fill and spread. I have used it for spreading grass seed and intend on using it in the winter for ice melt.

It works, but wasn't what I expected.

For many years I used a home-made shaker to spread granular Bacillus products for the control of mosquito larvae over my large bromeliad collection . I had never tried a commercial shaker until I purchased the EarthShaker Hand Spreader. It works perfectly and is easy to refill and hold. Now I don’t have to drill holes into the bottom of a plastic half gallon jug. Great product!
