not "plug 'n play" - more like, "won't play".
So far, It hasn't been able to work. We can't get it play any DVDs. It keeps coming up with a window asking to choose a region for the drive. It is set to region 1 which is where we are at and the DVD is set up for but it will not play. It will not let us change the region. If we just click to close it, and attempt to play the disk, nothing happens. We tried restarting the computer but this didn’t help. We are trying to use it on a MacBook Air (OS Mojave) and MacBook Pro (OS Catalina). We contacted the company, waited 4 days to receive a response that read, "Sorry for the late reply. I will solve the problem now. i will contact our Technical staff." - that was 3 days ago and we haven't heard back. I guess we'll just return it and try a different product. I'd gladly change my rating if only the company would either tell me how to fix the problem or that it is defective and I should exchange if for another....

DVD drive is great, manual is bad
The drive itself works great. The manual is confusing. May I suggest that you put on the first page a simple set-up guide. number one make sure you have DVDs software installed before hooking up the drive. That information is in there but you got to read through to find it. I can see how someone could easily try to hook it up before finding that information. Also I looked all through the manual over and over trying to find out if I needed to hook up both the data transfer cable and the power cable that came with it. No where did I find that information. I finally tried it with just the data transfer cable plugged into a USB on my laptop. It worked like a charm. But it's confusing that you included a cable without any information on when it might be needed. So the drive itself works great, great product. but you should really update your manual to be more user-friendly.

Excellent DVD drive
I liked a few things about the DVD drive. I like how it is plug and play. I did not want to spend time or energy figuring out what software to download. I also like the fact that it is sturdy. I also like the fact that it has two options either it charges through the computer USB connection, or it charges through its own power cord. I have not done any heavy work with it yet, but I understand that the separate power cord would enable the DVD player to write and rewrite and accomplish heavier tasks easier and faster. I also like that it is USB 3 which means it is faster than the slower USB 2. Finally, I really like the case. I have looked at sturdy decent cases and they are around $10 to $15 each, so this is a good buy. I strongly recommend this Guamar 5 in 1 External CD DVD Drive.

Great DVD/CD Burner
Super happy with the burner. It exceeded my expectations. The product is very sturdy and comes with a very nice case. The primary reason for my purchase was to copy all of my CD's & DVD's on an external hard drive. You need to purchase the upgraded software so that the artists and songs populate with the correct information. Its cheap and does a lot more so it was not a big deal. With heavy use, it does not disappoint. Its works as well now as it did when I first received it. Highly recommend.

More Frustration than anything else.
The unit is slightly less flimsy than the Hobest unit I bought this to replace, but still relative junk. It wouldn't play ANY DVD's I fed it (citing something about an incorrect country code, and not allowing me to correct it), and would read less than half the CD's I tried. The only good things I can say about it is it does have a feature that allows you to manually retrieve disks it refuses to eject (something I eventually because quite good at), and sending it back for a refund was hassle free.FTR, I bought the Apple Superdrive, which works wonderfully.

A $40 Lesson and Made in China
I purchased this in late December, 2019. I used it once, and had difficulty getting it to work, but i eventually did. Today, I needed to use it again and it is dead in the water.By the way, nowhere in the description of this item does it say it is made in China. Once you get this home and in your hand, you can feel it is very lightweight and flimsy. I should have returned it the day I purchased it. Sadly disappointed. Google them...there is no help, and no website.Don't buy.

Don't Go Cheap!
I am very pleased with this unit. I purchased this drive as a external add on for a high end Brennan CD ripper/juke box. Though the Brennan comes with an internal drive the instructions recommended an external USB 3.0 drive in order to save wear and tear on the internal unit but also the external would allow for a higher speed rip rate. Long story short the first unit I purchased was in the $25 range and it was dysfunctional right out of the box. CD's would take three loads to start and when they did the rip rate was slower than the Brennan internal. After this unit stalled on the third CD I quit, put it back in the box and returned it as defective. I then decided to run a search by cost of compatible drives and thought that the Guamar drive was worth a try. When I opened the box the quality level was immediately noticeable vs. the cheaper drive. It had more weight, the drawer seemed much firmer, etc. I plugged it into the Brennan and the difference in operation was night and day. The drive was recognized within seconds. I placed a CD into the drive and set the Brennan to rip. Wow, the first CD finished at a 19X rip rate! I ripped about 80 CD's over a few days with this drive and it was flawless in it's operation. This is a quality drive and the $50 price tag is still a modest price point. Don't go cheap. I've learned that lesson once again.
