The legend is of a poor musician invited to play in the Sea King's palace, where he is offered more than riches. The story is retold by award winning children's author, Aaron Shepard. It has 16 pages of art for coloring, by the legendary Russian-American children's illustrator, Gennady Spirin.This is not a traditional grayscale coloring book. It is a combination of a coloring book and storybook all in one. This makes a wonderful gift and keepsake for someone whether it is colored or not. It is a nice story with beautiful illustrations that can be shared and read to your children and grandchildren.This book is paperback. It is 8.5 x 11 inches. It is also available in a hardcover version. The images are in grayscale, and all framed in black for dramatic presentation.The paper is high-quality, acid-free. It is pure white for maximum brightness and contrast. It does state that the smooth, matte coating reduces bleed and feathering and is said to consume less of our coloring media. However, with this being a storybook, I would still highly recommend coloring it with colored pencils or other media, not markers. Markers can still bleed and any bleed will damage the story text or other illustrations .This book does include a title page with spot for colorists name and date.There is also a bonus page in the back of the book where you can test your colors and medium before starting on the book. There are also thumbnail size colored images on the back cover, of the original illustrations in the book, which gives you inspiration and ideas on ways that you can color them. Near the back of the book is a page that tells you more about the book, artist and author and even gives you some pronunciation guides for some of the words. There are also some sample covers of some other books, Aaron Shepard has.Grayscale coloring is a different style of coloring. For those unsure of how to do it, there are several good grayscale artists with tutorials online.This book is great for all ages.

interesting but repetitive. Not a very good coloring book.

Print Quality is terrible. Can’t see pictures to color because most of the pictures are covered in a white foggy mess. What you can see is poorly defined line art that has so little definition you can’t tell if your looking at an egg or a diamond!! I am truly disgusted with ‘this book and the Author should be ashamed of the lousy quality of this book.

Es ist dennoch leider für mich eines der Malbücher: das muss nicht sein.Ich zaudere vor dem Anmalen: es ist sowas von dunkelgrau, und ich weiß nicht, welche Buntstifte ich derart angespitzt bekomme, dass sie diese winzigsten Details erfassen. Ehrlich gesagt, farbig (fertig coloriert) hätte mir die Geschichte noch viel besser gefallen.Gennady Spirins Stil nennt sich 'märchenhafter Realismus'.Die Illustrationen sind wirklich großartig!!!!Es ist bloß kein leichtes Malbuch.Das Papier fühlt sich relativ glatt an. Ich kann nichts dazu sagen, wie es sich beim Ausmalen anfühlen wird, denn ich werde es, wie ich mich kenne, nicht einmal ansatzweise probieren.Fazit: ein ganz großartiges Kunstwerk bloß leider erscheint es mir als Ausmalbuch viel zu anstrengend. Ich würde sagen: Leute, kauft euch das Buch in Farbe!
