Perfect for Videoconferencing
Many of us are doing a lot more tele- and video-conferencing these days, Teams, Zoom, FaceTime. Most of us don’t need a “cover girl” image, but still, your image on the remote party(ies) screen is important. People will form an impression of you based on how you look. One of the worst things you can do when videoconferencing is use your laptop’s built-in camera because when you set your laptop on the desk and angle the screen to read it, that camera ends up looking up your nostrils and your background ends up being a distorted view of the ceiling above you. You end up looking down at the screen which is not good either for your neck or for your appearance because we associate looking down with weakness and dishonesty; it also makes you look tired or bored. All-in-all, It’s not a flattering look. (If you can’t use an external camera and have to go with your laptop’s unfortunate built-in camera, set the screen to be at a perfect right angle to the keyboard and then raise the laptop up until the camera is at your eye level; a stack of books often works well for this. Of course, typing will be uncomfortable this way.)Cell phones can be just as bad because it’s hard to hold the phone up for more than a couple of minutes. Even worse, it’s hard to hold the phone steady at all. It’s no good for a prolonged call and especially for a professional/business call. For a good videoconference image, your camera needs to be at or very slightly above your eye level. You need to look into the camera with your head up. This produces a flattering posture and results in you looking straight at and “into the eyes of” the other party. This looks good. But there’s another problem: light. Most rooms have ceiling lights that direct light down toward the floor. The result is poor lighting of your eyes and shadows under your eyes, nose, and chin. Again, it’s not a good look. This product solves both problems. It holds your phone or a webcam camera steady and at eye level, and it provides enough horizontal light to fill in your face for a good image on-screen.This product is not “heavy duty.” It’s mostly plastic. But for most videoconference type applications, using cellphones or small webcam cameras, it will work well.At its shortest configuration, this setup puts the camera about 21 to 22 inches above the table. This is about correct for a person in the 5’6” to 6’6” height range when seated with the tripod on top of a typical desk or table. When fully extended, and standing on the floor, the camera will be about 48 to 49 inches high which is about correct for that same 5’6” to 6’6” person seated in a typical chair. However, it is not at all suitable for that same person standing and will result in a very unflattering — for most of us anyway — straight-into-the-belly shot. If you want to present while standing, you need a taller tripod. When fully extended, this little tripod gets a bit flimsy. It’s suitable for a cellphone or most webcams, but certainly not for a heavier camera. And you probably shouldn’t plan to use it when their might be children or pets carelessly running around. The light ring is good for up to about four or five feet, typical for one person videoconferencing; for a larger group, you’ll need to find something more powerful. It provides enough even light to fill in your face eliminating shadows and dark areas on the face without being harsh or blinding to look into:The cellphone clamp is nice. It should hold most any iPhone-ish cellphone even in most cases. It opens up to a little over 4” and can accommodate up to almost 3/4” thickness. It’s got some padding inside the clamp and a thumbscrew adjustment for tension which can be more gentle than many spring-loaded clamps.I have not tried the included “selfie button” device.Bottom line, for many people this product will greatly improve your videoconferencing image. I highly recommend something like this for anyone who videoconferences.

5 for value, 4 for quality, works with "normal" cameras
I've been working on a lighting and camera setup for video calls since I'm often on them for several hours a day now thanks to quarantine lockdowns. I already had a keylight setup for video calls, but needed some soft front light to help even out my face and make my eyes not look like death. This fit the bill perfectly and does a great job - here's a quick rundown:Value - 5/5. You get a pretty solid soft ring light with multiple options and touch controls, a decentish tripod, and a remote (haven't tried it) for dirt cheap. Yes, it's all plastic, but it works great for home photography.Quality - 4/5. Let's be honest, at this price point there's no way you're going to get high quality components and you shouldn't expect them, either. The tripod is not going to compete with $100+ ones, nor is the light itself. But they get the job done just fine. Note that the tripod is not particularly robust, so I don't recommend using it with a heavy DSLR. It's fine with phones and even with my Sony RX100 camera, but I wouldn't put anything much heavier than that on it since the joints aren't particularly tight (especially tilt up/down) and it's just not designed for that.Light - 4/5. In comparison to my reference true 5500K LED keylight, the default setting is slightly orange (not a big deal), and you also get two alternate setting options - one more orange and the other more blue. Brightness options offer plenty of variance, but note that if your other room lighting is super dim like mine, the output from the ring light probably won't cut it on its own for good photos. In that case consider stepping up to a bigger ring or adding another light. Also important to me was the softness of the light and the diffusion on top of the LEDs does a great job here - nice soft shadows.Important note if you want to use a real camera (like a DSLR) with this: Yes, you can! The kit assembles as three separate pieces - the tripod is like a normal one with a standard 1/4 20 screw thread on top, then the light unit screws onto that and itself has another 1/4 20 screw thread on top of the controls (so the screw is inside the ring, about a half-inch above the bottom of the inside edge). You can use the provided phone holder to screw into that and hold your phone, or screw in a camera instead so that the camera is inside the ring. HOWEVER, note that there is only 60mm from the center of the thread to the inside edge of the ring so measure your camera and make sure it will fit without hitting the side. My RX100 IV barely fits, but I added a quick release system to it that lifts it 3/4" up so it's not an issue - you might need to do something similar if your camera is wide or has a screw mount way off center.

Great value and quality for indoor AC plug in use only
Works great, metal tripod is sturdy and has a leveler, could be used with other small camera/video/lighting equipment as well. Not sure I would use it to hold my DSLR and a telephoto lens thou. That said it's easy and quick to assemble and comes with a lightweight storage bag.The light ring is lightweight and offers bright light in all color options, which includes dimming if too bright. While I do love that it plugs in with an AC adapter, (perhaps I didn't fully read or understand the description provided) I kind of expected for it to have dual power options. Meaning, I expected for it to also allow me the option to plug it into my phone with a USB cable. Making it portable when going to areas where you don't have electricity. Basically, this is NOT a unit to travel with into areas without a standard wall outlet (primitive camping, hiking, beach, desert, rivers, park, etc). The phone holder, works just as described, I have a thick phone case with a pop socket on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ and it was able to hold it steady without issues. That said, I don't think it is capabilities allow for the width of a tablet. The remote is awesome and easy to use. The only down side to the remote, is that it only recognizes the camera's phone app when directly opened. Meaning, if you try to use the remote while accessing the camera/video feature within another app (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc) it won't recognize it and remote won't work.Aside from that it works great for indoor use. Plus it's an awesome value.
