Rye Field Model RFM5038 RM-5038 British Sherman VC Firefly-1:35

This is my first RFM model and frankly I'm blown away with the level of detail and finesse of accuracy. It is indicative of the modern ability to use CAD and modern machining to achieve levels of model moulding that even a decade ago would be almost impossible to achieve.The model itself is not for the person who wants to knock something up in a short period of time because the shear volume of minuscule parts some of which are practically invisible means it's a time consuming build. There are individual wing nuts that are so small you need a huge level of magnification to see for fitting.Fit and finish is first class. Every part neatly joins with no gaps. In fact I have not used any filler at all.And a word of warning.... This comes with photo etch parts which, add another level of detail but don't try it where anyone of delicate sensibilities are in attendance. I'm a seafarer and my entire offshore vocabulary was used at some point or other..Overall this is a kit that achieves levels of detail that means with a bit of care a superb model can be made.

An inherent problem with model tanks is once built the internals are hidden. Unless the model has full interior and a way of displaying it then I see no point in paying a premium price for a tank or submarine for that matter that buttons up and hides any details. A cheaper model once weathered is going to look just as good. I like Rye Field Models but would advise to pay a little bit more and get one with full interior and make it displayable.
