Hands on Hacking: Become an Expert at Next Gen Penetration Testing and Purple Teaming Paperback – 20 Aug. 2020

This is a really great book for learning about the tools, techniques, skills and ethical considerations needed to become an experienced penetration tester. It has a lot of practical exercises and examples to complete throughout the book, along with accompanying labs, most of which work exactly as described in the book with no coding expertise or prior knowledge required, which is not always the case with more dated technologies. It has many interesting insights along the way into the history of services and techniques, as well as the ethical and legal considerations a penetration tester must take into account. I would highly recommend this book if you want to take on a role in penetration testing or are interested in security, as it covers a lot of bases and techniques, and the authors clearly know what they are talking about and have expertise in the field.

Excellent book. It contains necessary and relevant topics for someone who either works in or who is interested in the IT security industry. The writers are evidently ‘old skool’ and pass on a wealth of experience and knowledge that is written in a format which is simple and easy to understand. Definitely recommended. Perfect start point. Step by step, with easy explanation. Really good for everyone interesting in cyber security.

I was excited to get this book following the positive reviews on here but sadly the excitement turned into frustration soon after installing VirtualBox. The book content on this is irrelevant now and causes much unneeded confusion. After getting over that hurdle you’re then presented with tools that are outdated and no longer work, more importantly that get your IP blocked by Google. Outdated and it’ll be sent back.

This book is very out dated and most of the lab exercises do not work. They have not updated the lab on which you try and practice for years. It is good to read through if you are bored but other than that i would not reccomend this book. Try and find something that has been released more recently.
