Originally published in 1907 this book's chapters were charmingly organized and arranged and exceeded my expectations - particularly since there were a few excerpts which intricately revealed scenes of a past gone era. I do wish there had been many more illustrations of the birds we encountered and perhaps these done in color

Delightful
Beautifully written (and formatted - thanks to whoever took all the trouble), this book is delightful, descriptive and a great read.

This has delightful and specific information about many different species, is easy to read, and is worth re-reading often.
There are little stories that makes the birds seem like friendly neightbors. It was written long ago, but the birds have not changed even though humans have. It says "every child should know," but it is also for adults who want to know more about birds.

I like this book.
It is a great book for those interested in birds. I bought it for me (a grown adult) because I am fortunate enough to live in an area where I am surrounded by wildlife.

A wonderful book!
This is a very happy book that both children and adults will enjoy! While reading it, I felt like a kid, listening to all kinds of wonderful story-like descriptions about birds. The information is factual, yet presented in a way that children can understand and enjoy. Ms Blanchan's descriptions make the birds come alive!

Irrelevant to British Birds
If I'd realised it was aimed at American/Canadian birds I wouldn't have downloaded it, however if you're American or Canadian it would be a very interesting book.
