Larousse Mini Dictionary French-English/English-French Paperback – October 16, 2012

There's nothing wrong with this little dictionary but the Berlitz pocket dictionary has about the same number of words and is much smaller. The Berlitz is vinyl covered too. OK. Did my homework. This book (Larousse) is 4.5 x 3 x 1.7 inches (not 1.5 as it says on the web page). The Berlitz is 4.1 x 3 x 0.9 which makes it MUCH thinner. The Berlitz is the one you want if you want something to throw into a purse, bag, etc. The Larousse Mini and the Oxford Mini (virtually the same size as the Larousse Mini) are simply too thick. See pictures. To be fair, the Larousse probably has 20% more words (it claims to have three times the number of words as the Berlitz but if you look at them and do some simple math that is simply not the case.) But if you need more words than what are in the Berlitz you just need a much bigger dictionary.

I bought this book to take with me on tours during a recent visit to France. The vocabulary is very comprehensive and the book includes a handy section on grammar and useful phrases. Print size and font style was excellent. What I failed to notice was how thick it was. At 1 7/16" inches thick it was too bulky for me to carry on walks and tours. Consequently, it remained in my room for later reference. Perhaps a larger overall page size would have mitigated the portability issue. What I have is a reference book that is too large for portability and too small for library use.

It didn't take long before the cover and spine of this dictionary completely fell off. And after only a few months of use, pages 103-138 fell out. I'm quite disappointed that it has fallen apart so quickly. My other pocket dictionary (a Langenscheidt pocket dictionary for Spanish) has been in continuous use for years and years without any problems. (That dictionary it has a plastic cover, which is far more durable.) It is a shame I couldn't find a Langenscheidt pocket dictionary for French.My other complaint about this dictionary is about the section on verb conjugations. It is very useful to have a section showing all the different French conjugations for certain verbs. But the problem is that this section is not in alphabetical order. So if you want to look up the conjugation of a particular verb, it can be quite hard to find. It doesn't make sense not to have them in alphabetical order. (However, the conjugations for the English irregular verbs are in alphabetical order.)Aside from those complaints, the dictionary is a good size to carry around and I've found it to be very useful. Just be aware that it may fall apart if you use it on a regular basis.

This is a very mini dictionary about the length of a cell phone but it has average font. I gave it a three because I thought it was going to be possibly pocket size in lentgh and flat but its not its short and chunky. But because the words are readible its a keeper. and its paperback

Cutest little dictionary. Easy to use and very portable. It is smaller than an iPhone 4 but very thick. Loved it while I was taking a French course in college but unfortunately either someone 'borrowed' it or I lost it.

Needed to find a dictionary for my son for his French class,so I ordered this one. It is very small, but it is a pocket size!He likes it better than the bigger ones. Tres bein!!

Way too stiff. It's hard to keep open and I'm sure the binding will crack in a very short time. They should have put a flex cover on it.

Awkward to hold but otherwise fine.

Good small dictionary not much else you can really say. Easy to use, functional. Its a dictionary. Its by my side as I write this.

This dictionary replaced an earlier edition Larousse, which had finally fallen apart with use. This later edition has an excellent vocabulary update, and is the ideal pocket size.
