The Rise of Modern Mythology 1680-1860: A Critical History with Documents Hardcover – 22 April 2000

This in my opinion is an essential book for anyone who needs background and history of mythology.The period of time covered is a most important period in the development and change of the use of mythology in literature.This book covers various countries with this subject.The book needs to be owned, not just read, because it is not only good reading but an excellent reference book.

This is a look at how mythology has been viewed through history. I was personally looking for information about looking at mythology as a form of history. There are some good references in there which included a 6 volume series of books written by Jacob Bryant (1807) that I bought. For the most part, mythology is viewed as fanciful tales of imagination. When it was originally written, "mythology" was not mythology, but a record of ancient history. It requires a lot of work to decode it and is time consuming, but it is THE ONLY HISTORY from the time of Noah and the re-population of the world following the flood. This is a good place to start, but just a pointer to other sources.
