THE kit for adding a sandfall to an aquarium
The media could not be loaded. Great kit for aquarium sandfallWhen I decided that I wanted to put a sandfall into my 20 gallon high aquarium, I was very unsure if it could be done. While it didn’t seem like Mission: Impossible, I’m a father who works full-time to support a family - needless to say DIY projects are few and far between. After hours of research and viewing DIY videos on YouTube, which produced dozens of questions that I assumed could only be answered from hours of guesswork, trial, and error, I was surprised to come across Aquavista Aquatic’s Yosemite Scapable Sandfall. The marketing for the kit was exactly what I needed to hear - it takes the guesswork out of the plumbing/mechanics of a sandfall and lets you put your time into the fun stuff. I had my doubts, but it only took a phone call to David Fisher at Aquavista Aquatics to put me at ease with going forward on the purchase.Once the kit arrived, I was off to the races. I had already purchased everything I needed in advance. To make a long story short, in about 20-25 hours (stretched over 12 days), I was able to fully complete and install the sandfall into my 20 gallon aquarium and have it working. Even though it was recommended for 30 gallons or higher, I was still able to make it work within my 20 gallon with minimal issues. The kit provides everything you need to circulate the recommended sand for a sandfall to work in an aquarium. It does work right out of the box, but each individual configuration will require adjustments - trimming the pipes and using the appropriate adapters that will work best for specific space and layouts. The pieces are obviously custom 3D printed plastic, which actually provides a texture that helps with silicone and super glue applications. The pieces are also tough and can take a beating (I was working with rock). Furthermore, most, if not all, the parts fit together snugly without a need for tools or silicone (I did not need to seal any parts of the apparatus together), while also providing for very easy adjustments. For example, the kit’s plastic pieces securely twist onto the flex tubing via counter clockwise motion, so you can easily dial in the exact length you need. Some of the pieces are also interchangeable in some regard as well (the nozzle will fit directly onto one of the 90 degree bends), making things easier when it comes to tight spaces. The only things missing from this kit would be something to prop the flex tubing vertically (for testing) and an optional straight adapter for the reservoir intake (only a 90 degree adapter is provided).Beyond the kit meeting and exceeding expectations, Aquavista Aquatic’s customer service is exceptional. David Fisher was readily available to answer questions via phone and email, while also providing tips and suggestions from their knowledge base of using this kit dozens of times in a variety of configurations. So does this kit do what it claims to do? To cut in half the time it takes to get a working sandfall into an aquarium? Given my circumstances, I would have to say yes. The time it would take to trial-and-error DIY the parts this kit provides is almost immeasurable. YouTube DIY method sandfalls look great, but it’s impossible to know if those reliably work for longer than a 2-3 minute video. This kit virtually guarantees that it will, eliminating so much of the time needed to verify if a solution works. That alone gave me the confidence to rely on the kit’s promise while putting all of my time and effort into making the aquascape around it work (the fun part). As such, this is absolutely a 5-star product. For anybody considering a sandfall for their aquarium, this should absolutely be considered an option. If anybody were to personally ask me how to add a sandfall to an aquarium, I would point them here every time.
