Drill America DWDDRIFTS2 Qualtech Drift Key, #2 Size, 5-1/4" Length (Pack of 1)

Picked up an older Jet JDP-17MF drill press off Craiglist and everything seemed to be solid, other than I soon realized it was missing the drift key or "wedge". After digging through the online manual, I determined it was an MT2 style taper and chuck. Rather than paying $30 for a whole set of keys, that allowed me to find and purchase this single wedge for about 1/3 the cost of a full set.This item is made of a nice quality steel and had the chuck separated from my drill press within about 5 minutes (I spent 4 minutes, 55 seconds looking for my hammer). I aligned the slot in the collar, placed the wedge inside and tapped it 3 times with my hammer as the chuck let go of the drill press within seconds.If you have an MT2 style taper, this wedge or drift key should work perfectly for you. Highly recommended.

Cheap made but it works. I couldn’t find one at a store around me. So had to buy online.It works. That’s all I can say about it. Just wouldn’t want to have to use it a lot or I don’t think it would last. I only need it for one time. So it got the job done.

I bought this drift key to use on my MT2 pieces. But it is too narrow. Instead of releasing the part, it just slides right through the little elongated window. In my case, the female MT2 is a 4 inch extension that I use on my wood lathe and the male MT2 is a drive spur used to hold work between centers.

Used on my 1940's Delta drill press. Simple little tool but makes removng a chuck on drill press a piece of cake. If your drill was designed for it. One tap. Be sure and be ready to catch old chuck.

Some how the drift that came with my drift drifted away (pun intended).This replacement was priced right and was put to use immediately by me as I had to separate a mt2 extension from a live center on my lathe.I have it anchored to my lathe with a rare earth magnet.The 2 day delivery with prime was super helpful in resolving my dilemma.
