seems like I finally found a winner!
I don't leave reviews a lot but my dog has such a finicky stomach and everyone dog brand I tried, even when properly switching her over to it, would eventually disagree with her. She also has a lot of allergy issues. My vet recommended this brand to me, it's one she uses for her dog too. It's been probably six months of using this brand now and I've never run into an issue with it. It's not sold in stores near me so I have to order it but its so worth it. She eats it every time and is a happy healthy doggie. Finally!!! I had such a hard time finding a brand that would work well with her, I was starting to think it was impossible, so yay (:

First two ingredients are good, not so happy about the next 5
I am happy with cod and turkey meal (just turkey would have been even better, IMHO) at the top of the ingredient list. However the next ingredients give me some concern. The lentils, green peas and pea protein isolate all add protein and I would prefer the protein to come from meat and/or egg sources. There is no way to tell how much of the protein in this food comes from the cod and turkey. There is a possible connection between legumes (and potatoes and sweet potatoes) and canine dilated cardiomyopathy. See the FDA’s “FDA Investigation into Potential Link between Certain Diets and Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy” for information on this. I’m not concerned about this if I feed and occasional bag of food high in legumes (I rotate between various high quality dog foods, with an occasional sample bag from Vine of a food I haven’t used before), but I am concerned about feeding a diet consistently high in legumes. This particular brand is not mentioned in the FDA information, so I am willing to include it for occasional feeding in my rotation. My dogs do prefer fish and poultry foods and have enjoyed this one.But that’s JustMe. (I received this product in exchange for an honest review, and that is what I have offered here.)

This food got a lukewarm reception at first; be careful of a grain-free daily feeding
I got this for my friend's two dogs to supplement with their other food. Sofie ate it and Sadie refused at first but then warmed up to the kibble. They are spoiled by being hand fed (see photos). The kibble is dark-colored and round pellet shaped. The first several ingredients are Cod, Turkey Meal,Lentils, Sweet Potato, Green peas, Pea Protein Isolate, Tapioca, Chicken Fat(Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavor,Dried Cranberries, Dried Blueberries, Dried Chicory Root, Turmeric, MarineMicroalgae, Lecithin, DL Methionine, Taurine, L-Lysine, LactobacillusAcidophilus Fermentation Product Dehydrated, Salt, Vitamin E Supplement,L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Niacin Supplement, Biotin,Thiamine Mononitrate, L-Carnitine, d-Calcium Pantothenate,Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Acetate, etc.The ingredients are okay except for the peas and lentils. Note that unless a dog has a grain allergy, it is not a good idea to feed them grain-free foods exclusively. The reason is that vets are finding an association between heart disease (such as canine dilated cardiomyopathy) and grain-free dog foods. This disease is mostly associated with the foods that have peas, lentils, other legumes or potatoes as their main ingredients and this food has two of those. Nevertheless, I feel it is okay to feed this food to a dog only to supplement a dog's diet and not as an exclusive meal every day of their life.I love that the bag has a strong Velcro closure to keep this fresh. The current price of $20.99 is on the costly side of competitively priced for a five-pound bag of this type of food. In summary, this eventually got a good rating from both dogs.

Higher priced but quality protein content, sustainable practices, major allergen grain free!
The dogs and the cats tried to break into this before I could get it into the bowls. I have two Great Pyrenees that are livestock guardians. They're also big family pets and demand attention all the time. However, because of what the vet suspected was a food allergy, their skin has been scaly and they dig a lot. I switched over to grain free food a few months back with excellent results so I wanted to give some other flavors and brands a try.So far, this is a hit at my house. Even the cats tried to help break into the bag. It's higher priced, but it's free of the major allergens like corn, wheat, and soy. It also doesn't use rice as it's primary carb and instead seems to use lentils and peas which is awesome because it's part of the legume family. Doesn't seem to cause itching and scaling like corn and wheat products. Dogs are omnivores and mine are especially fond of an omnivorous diet. The protein content in this food is pretty high, too at 33%. It has a high taurine content and plenty of minerals. This formula has turmeric in it, but I figure it's more for food color and flavor since small amounts would process out quickly. Especially in my big boy and girl. Overall, really happy with it. I am doing 1/4 in with their Purina sensitive right now, but with such good ingredients I think I could have swapped this in completely. They're not super picky. Solid buy, although it is pricey.

Absolutely amazing dog food
If you must use premade dog food and kibble, (and a lot of us must) then Annamaet and Honest Kitchen are two brands I absolutely love. I have tried a few different flavors of Annamaet foods for my senior dog as he becomes more fussy about eating. He transitions beautifully to it and to the times that I change the flavor to spark his interest without any resulting digestive issues. He has skin issues as well and his digestive system can no longer handle sudden changes. The Sustain flavor in Annamaet is made with Alaskan cod, turkey, lentils, Sweet potatoes and peas. The minerals are chelated to enable quick absorption and the formula includes carnatine, DHA, omega 6 and 2. The protein is at 33% which is a good amount for senior dogs and Fat is at 13%.Besides the excellent quality of the food, the company also uses only wild caught cod from a certified sustainable fishery. The resealable bag uses the newer velcro closure which works very well unlike the zip loc closures that tend to have a problem once kibble powder get in there. So, a pricey dog food but one that is definitely one of the best ones on the market.
