This particular device was not suitable for my jointer motor. The motor would not start.
I have a cap start/cap run motor. I fitted the potential relay, however the motor would not start. The relay has a timeout function of about 1-1.5 seconds. My motor seemed to take much longer to get up to speed, perhaps 2-3 seconds, so the power was disconnected, but recycled instantly. The motor then went into a transient mode where it wouldn't start, but sometimes took very high current and the switchgear went into thermal shutdown. I tried all voltage settings, but nothing worked. I proved the connections were correct by replacing the relay with a manual switch. The motor started OK. This was not a failure of the relay, just an incompatibility with my system. I contacted the manufacturer for help, but got no reply. I found an alternative solution using a contactor to switch the start cap in and out. It is a pity the timeout delay can't be adjusted, it would be a much more versatile product.
