CURT 56422 Vehicle-Side Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, Fits Select Volkswagen Tiguan, Black

It's easy in that it takes the guess work out of figuring out which existing wire to cut and tap into to feed the trailer lights when it comes pre-made with wiring harnesses to plugin into. I bought this CURT 56422 Vehicle-Side Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness so my 2013 VW Tiguan can pull a U-Haul trailer knowing it's required.What made it easy was that I just had to disconnect the 2 rear lights from the wiring harness they each had attached to them, then those harnesses would plugin into the CURT which in turn had its own harness that would then be plugged into each of the rear lights socket. Basically it's a Y adapter with harnesses on both ends so that whatever electric signal would go to the rear lights (for turn signal, tail lights or brake lights) is also sent to the trailer.Those connections were easy, but what was difficult was getting the wiring hidden. First it's the wiring between those 2 Y's since the youtube video for this had the removal of a plastic cover in the trunk wall that for my car was very difficult that instead I just had the wiring laying in the space where the spare tire is located since it's not seen there anyway. Not being able to remove that plastic also made access to the left rear light difficult but I was able to pry enough to get the new harness to go through. After that was to get the black wire run from under the rear right of the car all the way to the front from underneath and pulled up in the engine compartment to attach to the battery. Crawling under my car and finding places to secure that wire to with zip ties was no fun but I was able to get it done.After all was done I didn't have a trailer just yet to be able to test that setup so I went to my local harbor freight that had one for about $3 that once connected I was able to test all those rear lights and confirm the setup & functionality of the trailer wiring was good.

CURT as a rule has decent products. I purchased my hitch from them and it was well-made and easy to install. I ordered the wrong wiring kit. It was difficult to tell because the instructions for the kit are more or less useless. To provide some perspective, the photos are black and white. Vehicle wiring is color coded, and without color photos there is no way to be sure you are connecting things properly. Fortunately, I had not opened the packages. Amazon support was superb in facilitating a return and for that I gave the purchase a 5-star rating. The CURT wiring I would rate only 4-star because of the poor instructions.

Instructions vague took much longer to install than indicated in ordering information.Once installed, works fine.

Installed this on my 2016 VW Tiguan. Perfect fit, even found a step by step video on how to install it. The only wire I had to strip was the one going to the battery, the Y connectors were super easy to install. Would definitely recommend.

Installation was easy and it worked great but quit working after a year. I have power to the device and good grounding but no voltage to the lights.

Doesn’t fit vehicles listed and of course it’s outside of the return period because I was just able to install it. Great waste of time and money.

This is perfect for my 2014 Tiguan. No soldering, plug and play set up. If u can't hook up the battery power immediately, its a bypass system, so the vehicle lights will still work. Beats the 300$ plus the dealer wants.

As you can see it does not fit my 2012 Tiguan. This is shown to be compatible but the connections are not a match as indicated in the documentation. I have reached out to curt but no response yet.
