Great book for reference on what fly to use. I keep it with me whenever I go fishing and would recommend it to others.

Which fly do I use
I found this book to be disappointing. Really nothing new, just a rehash and not specific as to what fly rig to use in specific situations . There are better choices..John A. Kinsfather

Fly Fishing Basics for Everyone
Darren Banasch has certainly done his homework for this little book published by Frank Amato Publications. Flyfishing is an individual sport that can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. This book will help to make the sport easier for any reader. Too often flyfishing writer get so technical that you loose interest in what they are writing simply because you can't understand it. Flyfishing is not rocket science. It is a sport for enjoyment, for outdoors, for husband and wife, for parents and children, for grandparents and grandchildren. A life sport. Darren begins with by saying this book is a guide that will answer many questions, goes on to a review of equipment, then how to fish with flies. Trout food tells you what they eat and what then goes on to link trout food with flies. One of the best linkups I've ever seen. Beginning on page 33 are pictures of flies and nymphs and streamers. These are all standard western flies. No exotics here, just the real flies that are dependable every day on the water. Each fly picture has it's own little tale: page 33, "Elk Hair Caddis, 'One of...if not the best'"; page 41, "Woolly Bugger, '...the best fish-producing streamer for rivers ever!'" From Adams to Hares Ears to Zug Bugs, they are all here. He is a bit redundant in the fly pictures but it doesn't hurt the content of the book. I would give this book to anyone new to flyfishing, husband or wife or both, any child or grandchild who is new to the game. It's good, easily understood and if you follow his directions, buy a balanced rod and line and reel and use these flies you will catch fish! I certainly enjoy Banasch's fresh, easily-read approach. This book will make a great gift to someone you want see succeed at the sport
