Wisdom speaking directly to these trouble times but also timeless
Lama Rod shares hard earned wisdom in a way that is down to earth, authentic and straightforward. As a white bodied person, it is a privilege to hear this (itβs especially relevant in these times when white people are experiencing some things that Black folk have dealt with for hundreds of years - like feeling threatened by your government) and a pleasure to have it offered to me as well. Lots of concrete practices and topics that arenβt discussed in other dharma books. A resource I intend to revisit again and again.

Not like any other book Iβve read. A good challenge in a reading group
We read this in a small online reading group. Several workaholics who try to advance justice in our lives and the larger world, however imperfect and fumblingly. It was so helpful to do the meditations in the group. The idea of the healing circle meditation was excellent, but definitely more helpful for us to go through in a group.

Wow, this book should be required reading in high schools!
This author has written an invaluable guide for the 21st century human being who needs help in getting to the root of dealing with their anger issues, and understanding how to channel that anger without harming themselves or their psyches.

Critical Reading for Our Times
Powerful, raw, honest, authentic... shows us how embracing our humanity is key to embracing our Higher Self/Divinity with much practical relevance for what it means to be a social justice warrior. Highly recommended for all professionals and spiritual teachers working with trauma and injustice.

intimate and vulnerable
I am a white man who has grown up in a white community. I am cisgender. I became a nurse 40 yrs ago. I questioned my desire to care for others and my sexuality. I never felt I fit in. Lama Rodβs experience was different , but the feelings were similar. I have a better understanding π Now. Thank you

The book for these times.
Lama Rod is a teacher for these times. He guides us fiercely, compassionately with a level of vulnerability, transparency, and bravery we have not seen before in American Buddhist teachers. In these increasingly reactionary times this book offers refuge and a path to liberation. Deep bows.

Truthful. Revealing. Liberating.
Iβm so glad to have read this book. Lama Rod is rare because he doesnβt hide his humanity as so many spiritual teachers have and do. Heβll last because of it.

Honest account of overcoming anger through love
Lama Rod Owen is so painfully honest about the challenges he faces for being' different': Black, gay, fat (his words) and how he is able to live with this in a manner that is nourishing for him and open to others.

Learning to accept the whole
I am so grateful to Lama Rod Owens for his courage in writing this book, I can learn from him on so many levels... learning about white privilege, learning about healing trauma, learning about honesty and learning to show my tears. GREAT BOOK, thoroughly recommended πππππππ
