The Mighty Thor: An Origin Story

Fabulous
I have two sons, aged three and five, who are increasingly interested in all things super hero. It's too soon to formally read comic books with them, and there are a lot of cutesy books and cartoons out there (like Super Hero Squad) that are fine for the younger crowd. But I was still hoping for something more serious yet age appropriate. I feel this Thor book, as well and the other round of new Marvel books, is a perfect fit for what I wanted.First, this is my favorite "origin" book of the recent round of X-Men, Spider-Man, and Captain America. All are illustrated beautifully--rich colors, big splash pages, gorgeous artwork--but boy, Thor takes the cake. I love mythology, and the Asgardian angle is illustrated magnificently. Loki, Odin, the Frost Giants, the Rainbow Bridge, Sif and the Warriors Three--it's all here.Second, I really appreciate the effort to follow the comic continuity, not the movie or some made-up new "kiddie" version. Thor has to earn his hammer; only the worthy can lift it. Thor is still too cocky for his own good, and so Odin "tough love" Dad sends him to Earth as Donald Blake, the doctor with a cane. If you wanted the movie version, this is not it. Personally, this is a great choice; it gives young kids the "real" origin story. For the cautious parents out there, do be aware that Thor handles weapons other than his hammer, Mjolnir, and he does fight some monstrous-looking beasts. It's nothing alarming, but I want to respect the wishes of parents guarding their kids from early exposure to violence, I guess. If you like the idea of a Thor book with less violence, check out the smaller Little Golden Book. It's shorter with a lot of the same art, but the swords are *magically* brushed out. The little golden book may be better for the two or three year old True Believer, while this edition I am reviewing could be three years or on, depending on your child.I recommend ALL these books, by the way. If the other characters appeal to you more, you can't lose. Or if you're like me, you can order them all and feel satisfied that they all share the same high quality.

The Mighty Thor: An Origin Story
I got this book along with Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and the Avengers books. My grand kids love them!! Every time they spend the night, I have to read at least 2 or 3 of them. They love the pictures of the characters in the books and the stories. I like the hardbound feature and the paper pages are thicker than other kids books. Definitely a must buy if you have boys that are in to any of the super heroes.

Lovely book
My son is Avenger mad, he's 3 and loves me reading this book to him, the pictures are amazing although the stories are a little old for him, he doesn't mind and will grow into them.My only negative is the paper cover, it's not very practical for little ones and because it has the superhero's face split 50/50 across the back my son refuses to have it taken off, over time it will get damaged and the board cover underneath is not as good.Have bought 4 of these so far and will probably buy more!

The Origin Books
This book is another fine installment to this whole series. They are fantastic books for children and adults alike. If you are at all a fan of Marvel comics and/or superheroes you need to get not only this book but the rest of the set.I was pleased with the condition of the book when I received it.The artwork in these books is amazing and not to be missed. The part you can see on the image is the book jacket. It shows half of the face of the hero on the front and the other half on the back as what he looks like when he is just a "regular Joe" it is very cool. Behind the book jacket the hardcover is brilliantly illustrated and vibrantly coloured. I treasure all of these books and any true Marvel fan would too. If you are thinking of buying just one you might as well buy them all.
