This is the first series of Care Bears--the ORIGINAL debut series
This is the first series created as far as I can tell. This is the one with Professor Coldheart and his sidekick, Frostbite. Later on, No-heart and Beastly came onto the scene, presumably a "rewrite" to the series after its having been gone a couple years. I'm not positive when this Original aired, but let's say it was 1982 with these original 22 episodes that feature Prof. Coldheart. After the 22, the series went away, only to be brought back in, let's say, 1986. Well, it's the "brought-back" series that no longer features Coldheart and Frostbite but No-heart and Beastly and No-heart's shrill niece, Shrieky. (Amazon also sells the "brought-back" series; it's called "Care Bears--The Compete Series" and features 64 episodes.) Neither description really makes it clear what you're getting: Is it the 1982 or 1986 (again, I don't know the correct aired-on dates, so these are my make-believe dates), or are the 22 in this DVD melded into the 64 on the other so I'm getting duplicates? The answer is: No, you're not getting duplicates. This DVD is a totally different series from the other one offered here at Amazon. Now, if you grew up on Coldheart, this is the series for you. If you grew up on No-heart, then the other DVD's for you. I vaguely remember Coldheart (it was his assistant I remembered more actually) but seem to recall the sorcerer-like weirdo, No-heart, and his bumbling I-have-no-idea-what-he's-supposed-to-be assistant, Beastly. Of course, aside from Grumpy (my and my mother's favorite), I didn't really remember much of any of either series. But, watching them, slowly things came back to me. I recalled Braveheart and his Texas accent. I remembered the bears lived in the sky and kept tabs on humans on earth. Whenever a child was in danger of not caring--Care Bears to the rescue!I think I remember the "1986" series (Care Bears--The Complete Series") best, so I'll review it in its slot, but this "1982" version doesn't really feature Grumpy Bear much at all. It, however, does have the Care Bears interacting a LOT more with kids on earth than the "1986" version, which seems to hang about in Care-a-lot a great deal.I was planning on returning the "1986" version until I started watching it and realized that, though No-heart's more sinister than Coldheart, the series isn't all that bad for kids' viewing. I would say that this series (the "1982" version) is good for really young kids (toddlers through, say, kindergarten) because Coldheart's not evil in a dark sort of way--just a mean old grump. I think the other DVD (the "1986" version) would be better for older young kids (first grade through third, fourth) because No-heart's not just mean but evil. He dabbles in what I'd call witchcraft: spells, amulets, demons, etc. Nothing tremendously scary, of course, and, of course, the Care Bears always win the day, but I'm not certain I'd want my little ones gorging on No-heart until they were older, able to handle such "dark" themes.Anyhow, both series are good, better than what's being pushed today. Simple and silly at times, yes, but Good always wins and there's always a moral-of-the-story life's lesson that kids don't get much these days. Tales about being true to your word, minding your parents, being a good friend, making friends, sharing with others, helping others, etc. There's nothing complex or confusing in these tales. Kids are simply entertained by some cutesy bears while getting a dose of good medicine along the way. And I've been watching them with a purpose, trying to determine: If my kids wanted to watch these over and over and over again, would I go stark-raving mad after the first couple viewings? Truthfully, there are a couple bears that do tend to grate on my nerves, voices-wise, but there's enough of the other bears and kids and innocent fun and learning involved that I think my kids could hit Continuous Play and I wouldn't end up pulling my hair out. So, parents, if you can just remind yourself that "it's good for the kids," you should be able to survive Continuous Play. The only problem: You may find yourself humming the Care Bears theme song or even mumbling the words as you cook and clean. I do!!

Care Bear STARE!!!
Who doesn't LOVE carebears!!!!!! I remember this from childhood and how joyful it was. This comes with SIX disc's! Which means there is plenty to watch. This is so lighthearted and has life lessons in them as well. They are educational and not full of junk like most of the kids shows now. Still just as good as I remember even 30 years ago!! Doesn't disappoint. You can't help but feel happy after watching this or less stressed. Its so carefree and silly and allows you to relax and not think and just enjoy being a kid again!

Care Bears Show the Caring Way
My children enjoy the multiplicity of Care Bear espisodes on these DVDs as we try to show them more about caring. There are clear good and bad characters, which unfortunately has become more rare in our society. Since we are Catholics though, we try to get them reading and learning about the lives of the saints so they don't too watch too much TV. I think the Care Bears are great in general though, and they really keep the children entertained.

Love!
Love it! I'm bummed that I already had the Carebear Nutcracker DVD cause this came with it! AHHH.I bought this because it was my favorite cartoon growing up and watching it again is so nostalgic. I can't stand the new ones they have on Disney. They look so weird now. When I have kids, this is what they'll be watching!

Awesome collection. My daughter loves the original Carebears series
Awesome collection. My daughter loves the original Carebears series. When it was removed from Hulu recently I purchased this collection immediately. All the episodes are there, including a Christmas Carebears movie as well. Overall, you get a ton of content for a very affordable price. My only complaint is it is a little cheesy that this collection utilizes double sided discs. There is more opportunity for one side of the disc to get scratched resulting in skipping, etc.

My 3 1/2 year old fell in love with some old VHS tapes that my sister gave me. Only problem was the VHS only contained about 30 mins of video and only 20 mins being actual movie. This DVD collection contains all of the VHS episodes and so many more. Highly recommend!
